He said something about being in the bahamas.......and thanks Snowy;)

What was the cost of the parts mate. Just contemplating the possibulities later on (or taking advantage of someone who busts a gearbox and sells it)

They are definitely not the same

neither will the new holden 6 speed.

Getrag is a brand not a model, remember that.

as for parts. a 6 speed sequential box from hollinger would only cost you a little more... while a gear set will cost you alot less

The R34 gtr uses a V160/161 getrag transmission.....as does the JZA80 supra(and i assume that this tranny is used by a number of other vehicles) ....therfore the internals are IDENTICAL....there are two types of synchro's some have 6 tooth and some have 7 tooth....you dont know what you got until you pull it apart.....the gears are about 500 each and the synchro ring vary from 70-120 each....the shift drums are 280 each

heres a pic of the new gear.......the arrow point to the teeth that snowie likes to destroy.....these are the dogs....the shift drum locates on these and locks the gear to the shaft when selected(the synchros job is to "synchronise"these 2 componants by acting as a brakepad for the gear(it rides in between these two parts)....these little teeth transfer all the power! Its quite unbeleivable

I am in the automotive trade....lots of my friends have panelshops/mechanical repair shops both here and in japan...i usually get called in for one off jobs, jobs that require attention to detail or jobs that require a bit of engineering/design for componants that have been damaged,failed/have a design fault or are no longer available so therefore have to make the part in question, basically all the ball breaking jobs .......sometimes i am asked to fix the unfixable...i usually do something starting with the letter "F" to it and it aint fix :)

I think    The  WHITEs  that came 2 outright in Targa Tas   in there GTR   made  there own syncros ...  you can Not buy all the parts in a BMW Getrag 6 speed as they only list certain parts in the box 4 sale .. other wise a exchange box from Bmw  ..   Getrag rate there boxes  as the Maximum  inputshaft torque in  newton meters  the box can take safely  .. So not all Gearboxs with the Name Getrag are the Same ..

If they made their own synchros and they were ina ny way different to the factory ones, they should be disqualified.

Oh, they were.

on another note.....its not a power rating issue with this particular gearbox....its the fact of getting it into gear in the correct manor thats the problem

hahahaha has snowey been a bit rough with it?

 i think we all have been a bit rough with our 34GTR gearbox's....Its quite funny actually i had a 400rwkw supra at my place for a while that had this gearbox in it and the thing is still going to this day without drama's

    • Sorry, are coilovers ACTUALLY ILLEGAL in NSW? They aren't in Vic, as long as they retain 70% of stock travel and the car is above 100mm off the ground. Does NSW actually have a law making coilovers actually illegal? RWC/Blue Slip/Engineering people not knowing the actual f**king laws boils my blood. Demand them to point to the documentation that states a coilover is illegal. (it may exist in NSW )
    • But seriously, can we ask for the results of the "tip a bottle of metho into a nearly empty tank" experiment?
    • Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.
    • Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.
