Hey, basically I’m after some advice for my cars paint job.

I and trying to figure out wat will fix the following problems, weather it be taking my car to a detailer, maybe cut n polish or getting a another clear coat not sure wat will fix the following and who to see about.

I want to get rid of the minor defects that manage to piss u off the most.

Ø Pin dents – got 1 or 2

Ø Scratches to the paint from doors ect.

Ø Minor paint chips

Ø Graze on the door from someones trolley.

Now the things that really bug me

Ø I have kind of deepish swirl marks all over the car, they come out really harsh looking in the sun

Ø Bonnet has a lot of swirl marks and looks like it has less of a clear coat then the rest of the car, like the polish or wat ever has been stripped down a little.

Ø Roof – worst of the worst, my roof is starting to fade a little, has minor cracks and major swirl marks on it. It also looks like a lot of the clear coat has been taken off it.

Now short of getting the car resprayed, wat options does one have? Any advice would be great. And names and contacts for people that would do a decent job would be great (hills area would be good but anywhere round perth is cool)

Also I’m after seeing someone to fix these problems not a home job that one does, such as using scratch x ect.

A very good friend of mine works for Car care.. mobile service. For thos of you that have seen my car (especially on sunday for the photo shoot) my cars paint is as shiny as the day it left the showroom.

He had a 89 model blue VN commodore that was meant to be blue but had faded to grey!!! 3 hours later his car was back to a beautiful shade of blue again.

You all know how protective of my car I am so when i use someone to do something they have to be good.

Pm me if ya interested..... i thoroughly recommend him and i think he could get that beautiful shiny colour back up and fix up most of those probs!!!

I have been in talks with him to get all SAU members very cheap prices..... cheaper than most detailers........

I will prob write up a thread in regards to it soon once i get more details....

Thanks Aidwin:-)

OK guys, i will organise a bit of a group buy so to speak....

What exactly are we after....

wash plus small cut & polish and buff...... that should get out the swirl marks and generally bring the paint up to its gleaming self again, unles if ya paint is BADLY faded then you would go for a deep cut.

interior aswell??

so far Ineterested i have:

Nugget

Bless_you

Jolinator

Godfather

I would be happy in saying the above mentioned of what to get done will be Saffice but I am sure Patrick will do that little bit extra.... HE IS A PERFECTIONIST!, you will see what i mean with his van!!!

Just let me know if you guys want interior done aswell.. or just the paint.... as there is a few people I am sure the prices will be VERY cheap.... normally he said he would do my friends a cheaper than normal price but now theres a few we could prob get even more cheaper..

Hi guys. A subject that interests me too. I also have a niggling scrape on the bottom of the passenger door which is starting to rust (Aaagggghhh!) :D . So I need to do something soon. Not sure that Car Care will do painting of stone chips and this type of thing. I think they just do the cut and polish. Am I wrong? If they don't, who is recommended for touch up prior to a polish?

Also, as a matter of interest, the guy who owns Car Care has a beautiful Supra Aerotop, manual. :aroused: It is red (the worst colour for fading in the sun) and has "Speedshine" written on the flanks. It looks fantastic.

25GTT - pm on the way.

Cheers.

around the $170 mark is what you would NORMALLY pay!!

I can assure you he is going to do a LOT better deal than that..... he is been a very close friend of mine for 10 years and loves skylines as much as what i do he will do us a very good price....... he should be paying us to detail our cars! ahhah!!

OK he is going to call me tomorrow with exact prices for this! sorting it out at the moment :-)

he is going to quote us for wash, cut & polish, & buff....

the materials he uses are meguirs and even better stuff.... so should be good.

Dan put me down as interested too.

If he can shine up a black car i'll personally kiss his feet.... when i had my accident the panel beater had my car detailed but the detailer didnt get all the polish off my car now i got all these white spots i cant get rid of. :D

Lauren put it this way,

I went to SST the weekend before the photo shoot, i was teased by Paul and the rest of the posse becuase of my car being a show car and being so frickin dirty!!

Paul and Aidwin were both pretty impressed as to how it still gleams. Patrick spent 6 hours on it!!!!!!!!!!! poor bugger but it looked like it had just come out the showroom!!!!

OK guys I have now received a price range from Patrick.

For a full maximum polish taking anyting up to 6-7 hours you would normally look at $220.

He has said $150 for a job such as this. Now a normal wash and small cut polish plus buff looking at $170....... he is looking at $100.

Basically $100 - $150...... we have managed about 25 - 30% off!!!!!!

For those that want this please PM me for his number he is expecting your phone call. He is a mobile service so he can come to you wherever you are. He has asked that he does it on a saturday as it may take some time to give your car love and affection.

So basically on a saturday he can come to where ever you are and expect to pay $100 - $150 as to how full on you want it. YOU MUST SAY YOU ARE FROM SKYLINES AUSTRALIA when talking to him otherwise lookin at the $220 mark!

Everyone PM me away!!

dan: i want to get all kinda liek paint scracthes off, so it look nice and clean etc...good paint job n that, cos if i read correctly thats wat it does, then well im in to....

need to just touch up places on front bar and the back on the bottom etc.....

just want to make it shiney....

put me down, and can u pm me or just reply in this thread

cheers

    • Small update for the day... Turns out the intercooler and engine coolant hose kits are anything but complete....I probably should have counted better but it only really covers about half the coolant hoses in the car, it really just covers the visible stuff and pretends everything else doesn't exist (turbo water feed and returns and also heat exchanger lines through the 2 pumps and cooler) .In any case, I'm happier to have half reliable hoses than none, but a bit of a disappointment. Anyway...finger click (and 5 hours).....hoses in place, lots of spring clamps replaced with screw clamps, and engine coolant is on the pressure tester for the night.   Incidentally, upsized header tank is an Inifiniti factory option....not sure I'll ever do prod car racing in this but at least it is legal.
    • Just weld it onto the hot pipe. If you want it right after the turbo, put it right after the turbo. Or rip the comp cover off and drill and tap a hole into it.
    • hahaha glad I can rely on you two to go on a spiral at the drop of a problem! Some quick answers....the ducting is excellent top bottom and sides....everything that gets in goes through the coolers (noting the oil cooler redirects it out again, fair call if it is cooling 120o+) and the heat exchanger for the intercooler also has some scoops to pick up more than it's fair share too. I can't see going down the water spray track....no bueno for formal racing and a big risk for long rally days if you run out (plus I'm not clear if it is allowed there either yet).   Frankly, it must be possible to reliably put 400kw through a standard front end, the BMWs do it so I just need to work it out....I'm starting with reducing blockages in the way and adding some coolant capacity with a bigger header tank, flushing rad and making sure it was filled/bled properly (I didn't do the last coolant change); also taken measurements incase next step is a bigger/higher capacity custom radiator
    • wow, a completely stock GTR! I've got to admit, I have no idea from what you are describing....do you have  any idea where the "thump" comes from, and are you certain it is the HICAS light not something else like the cat overheat light?
    • nice work, welcome to the world of CAD! fabricating accurately in 3 dimensional space is beyond me....I almost always end up making something more than once...sorry I mean I extensively use prototyping
