the BMW's and mercedes here that come from japan are super cheap compared to european imported cars or middle east specifications.

there are tonnes of them around, and all of them are left hand drive. also they have the bmw japan sticker and usually another one with the word "YANASE" on it.

any idea why are these cars so cheap and what is yanase. its weired that almost all of them are around the 100k Km's range.

Yanase is the dealer name.

They are cheap because...consider 127Mil people in Japan and the ratio to rich people and you will know. Used Mercs and BMWs especially the basic models are cheap as chips...but parts and maintenace aren't. So not alot of the younger buyers get into them. There is market for them sending them over your way, so why not . As other countries have restrictions or regulations on LHD. I also know you have heaps of them there, my mate sends about 6Mil Yen worth every month to a dealer there.

Have you seen how cheap a 8-series is :). I could have bought 2 for what I paid for my Evo.

What do you mean Japanese specifications? I don't think there are much done to them for the Japanese market before release. 850 are nice if I was like in my 40s but a GT of this size plodding along Japan city streets is a task in itself, but then the Evo is not much better - wide track. Not to mention the 850 is also thirsty, heavy, slow and tuning parts are expensive...we all only want a car to tune/play with then move onto other bigger and better projects...tuning an 850 will burn my bank account.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
