So Guys,

I am wanting to know hopefully without a debate through peoples knowledge if it is ok to register a R32 Skyline with a RB25 in it.

Knowing that a R32 Came out with a RB20 and RB26 and you are technically allowed 25% change in engine size which the RB25 fits either side of the RB25 and RB26.

As the RB25 is a great upgrade for a R32 I am trying to figure out if registering it with the RB25 will cause me too many issues like getting it engineered compared to keeping it as a RB20.

Thanks for you input.

did you have to take it through dickson though...... in this case I am only needing a regular inspection, but seeming that the R32 came out with a 2.6L as well all the other engines.

Its such a tricky subject I have spoken to RTA and they said it is fine but you never know with them clowns

You never know, some people have horrible experiences at dickson, some don't I took my 32 over dickson to get rego from nsw to act. They passed it, after I put a rego muffler on. I was defected years later for too loud an exhaust, took it over dickson again, they found that my coilovers were leaking, but didn't say boo about the engine, mind you it's an r32 rb25de thats been turboed.

So it's really luck of the draw I think. You might be okay, or they may decide to pick over every little thing.

In my case mine wont go through dickson as it has a high mount, fmic, exhaust etc so i would get it all done through a regular inspector that wont crack it at the high mount etc.

The only issue i have is the rb25 issue but by the sounds of what i have heard, research etc it is ok.

Where did you see this?

As far as I was aware, any modification from factory requires certification.

Some people on this forum have convinced the person doing the inspection that RB25det does not require certification in a R32 because, as Chris mentioned, it an RB25 was a factory option at the very end without being specific.

I'm pretty sure the RTA that being referred to is Rego ACT/TAMS(???). There isn't a Australia wide department, unless you were thinking about The Department of Infrastructure and Transport. They provide a set of standards and guildlines for states and territories, it isn't supposed to be the hard line at the moment.

I thought it was %15

And that was 20 years ago, if they changed it, it would be even less or nothing by now.

lewis in SA make a 2.25l which is %12.5 bigger, still under the %15.

I had a 1600 celica with a 2l but it still said 1600 on the block. how?, 1800 crank and rods with a 3.5mm overbore, and a Yamaha twincam head.

Careful, as the 32 with a 25 was non turbo, and the 26 was a GTR with different brakes etc.

You may have to be real sneaky, but if you get it on paper... sweet.

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
    • Hi Everyone I am from West Pennant Hills in NSW. Been too busy until recently to attend to my RB25DET Series 2 engine until recently. I am planning to stick it into the S15 shell at this stage, unless a nice SR20DET turns up... For now, i am going to try and get the RB25 running and working well then decide what gearbox to use. My preference is to retain the SR20DET  6 speed gearbox and tail shaft to retain as much and least modifications as i can avoid. I am an old guy and won't be doing any heavy drifting so i don't need a bullet proof gearbox Does anyone have experience with starting the RB on a stand? I got everything setup as much as I can with the info i can find... endless searching and videos on Youtube I would be great to get some pointers Cheers Songo
    • Hey all, Recently have had my s1 r33 gtr serviced and noticed my coolant reservoir was topped up to the max line. Took the car out for 1 yesterday and noticed today the reservoir is completely empty.  Any ideas? Radiator is full
