Hey guys. The other day I took my whole dash out of my r32 GTR to replace with one with no bubble in it.

When I put it all back together everything worked but the speedo which I can fix.

The problem is now all of a sudden the car is running very rough like it has a miss and I took it for a drive to see if it would clear up then power steering cut out and the hicas light came on.

Can any of this be my doing from pulling the dash out? It all just seems too coincidental that it drove fine before I parked it and removed dash (which I'm now highly regretting). Need to know what this could be as its due for a pink slip

:( not my week.

You have two problems.

The HICAS and power steer should clear up as soon as you fix the speedo.

They both need input from the sender on the back of the speedo, the power steer will go very heavy without speedo signal input.

Your miss is probably poor contact at the big blue ecu plug.

With age this plug develops a bend therefore the end pins often don't make contact.

I always help the plug to fully engage its end pins as I tighten the centre bolt.

Seems to be worse with the PFC contacts for some reason, car runs like a Subi.

Try pushing in the plug with the engine going, you'll soon tell if that's the fault.

next time cover the bubble with a dash mat :-)

jiffo is quite correct, the ecu plug bends like a banana, doesnt help when dopey auto electricians overtighten it and distorts it even more

Oh my god jiffo you could be a massive lifesaver that makes a lot of sense. I've been stressing so bad about this not even being able to sleep cause i have a pink slip due very soon.Thank you so much for your comment ill test it out tomorrow. Thank you thank you thank you :)

Steven I think I was the dopey dogey fix it man in this one. As soon as the dash was out I thought to myself "my god what have a done" lol. Tho was very happy everything worked when I put it back together other than speedo and didn't miss a screw hahaha

eeeeeeverybody who has a skyline has been at that point.

haha. I threw 5k at a HKS turbo, nismo injectors, a computer n tune.

2 days later i blew a boost pipe. (big bang under boost/WOT then it runs rough as guts with smoke coming out the back).

Thought it was f*kd, drove home, cracked a bottle of 15yr old whiskey and contemplated exactly the same as you.

About 4 glasses in my brain threw up an old thing I'd read on SAU about blowing boost pipes and the symptoms.

by the 5th glass i had found the pipe, fixed, n was good to go again (committed to skylines, not driving right away)

Was even thinking erh ill just sell the car really cheap and cut losses. Made me hate skylines for a short time haha WHAT WAS I THINKING! :b

Haha very funny. Hey one other thing while I'm here I had something similar. Took car to the drags and had a pop noise. Has been blowing a bit of smoke on and off for a while now. Had valve stem seals replaced at a large cost then still no better. Think it could be something similar? I have a catch can but there is a bit of oil in the Intercooler piping. Very odd.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
