yeah - point taken. Warning is much appreciated

My issue is including Workshops as well. Thats where cars go to get fixed.

Bit shitty if your cars there to fix a defectable item and you get defected and it's then off to Dickson you go...

They can see a exhaust and go we want that tested and defect you for a loud exhaust they can do you for a fmic and say its got modifications same as tyres, ride height, anything in plain sight (even looking under car)

They have also done this in civic mall car parks but if you are in a workshops back lot like our they cannot come in where as if it is a public area they have all rights supposedly.

I am not a fan whatsoever because my workshop specialises in these type of cars that they target. I can assure you I will be making a formal complaint to RTA and any attached organisations that need to be ranted at.

The thing that annoys me is that they don't know their job! They say something is modified and its not etc. I get fired if I don't know my job and these guys just keep on revenue raising.

S*&%T's me to tears.

I just cant see how it is actually legal for them to do that. And if it is surely if someone is defected for something that is stock for example and they have to pay to go to Dickson they could legally seek compensation through the courts.

i carnt see how they can defect a car thats on the private workshop grounds - i just mention this to a friend who had a shop in canberra and he advise if they go near a car on workshop grounds you can refuse them access to the car it is called trespassing -

if it is on the public road notmuvh we can do - it is a crap loop hole - i agree if i am defected and i can clear it or prove them wrong at dickson you should be compensated - this is all revenue raising -

ScR33m3r - give the RTA a massive mouthfull

Oh I can assure you I will give them a mouthful.

It does shit me to tears especially when my shop fronts onto a public road, we generally will bring all car around the back straight away only to stop them from being able to. And we do have full right to call police or anything if they step foot into our back lot because it is private and its realistically a no public access area.

Put it on FB and get some social media up ya! Tell Grunt Files while you are at it haha! Gotta help the cause.

+1

Everyday my mates go out drifting and crap.. I hate it. Let alone I can't drift. They never get caught aha :(

I go out for a peaceful drive and get pulled over everytime (4 times now) so I'm slowly restoring the interior while I clear defects..

just throwing this out there you can argue and claim on loss of income due to RTA defecting customers car while being repaired...

am i correct in saying someone got defected on FMIC?

do they defect some and not others - as i passed dickson inspection with a Blitz FMIC and apexi podfilter which is clearly easy to see -

FMIC are an odd one. Most people cut the front bar to fit the pipes. This makes them a nono. If yours is properly fitted with no hacking etc it should be fine.

ah i am assuming thats why then - coz they nailed me on other stuff -

it suck driving round canberrra now and looking over your shoulder all the time.

this whole situation with defects will blow up soon - i no there was a guy in NSW building a case againt NSW Police and RTA i think (unsure of full details)

That's right Sin, if you have changed/modified your chassis to fit a fmic it is defectable but if it fits correctly it is allowed hence the time role have passed through Dickson with fmic. However it the car had a top mount intercooler like WRX's you cannot have a fmic without engineering because your average skyline, Silvia etc has a forward facing intercooler outside the chassis frame oem. Same goes for turbo lasers where they are next to the engine.

The car that was defected out the front of my shop was brads ke70 namely the wheels because they sit 2cm outside the wheel arch (track width issue) yet it is the most outrages thing I have ever seen or have happen around me.

Yet with the recent crack down on the rego stampers and doing "dodgey" Regos it wouldn't have surprised me that they have thought to go down that road however they have.

In saying that I will be lodging a formal complaint with RTA and going to the minister of road and transport and asking him to prove what part of the legislation allows a inspector to deem a vehicle unroadworthy just from walking past it. As well as seeking some form of sub clause in a legislation that removes the right for them defect a vehicle that is parked out the front of a licences motor vehicle repairer.

But I think any forms of ideas/help/backing from a automotive car club etc to pressure the right places. I will also be going around to other mechanical places that have been affected by this recent raid to push harder on them.

    • ^ This. The mode door actuator is a common failure, as is the actuator and/or the actual valve for the coolant flow control valve. I also don't know how available the mode door actuator is these days. I've been meaning to look into it and get one from wherever is possible, to keep in the shed for the rainy day when mine eventually fails. Anyway, the advice to you is to search the usual NOS part supply places, or even just go to Nissan and see what they list.
    • Have you got a pic of the actuator? My guess is that unit has failed internally and was flopping around, so the previous engineer who owned it forced it to be fully open to cold air (blocking the heater core path). As far as you can tell, is anything else wrong in the system? Likely you just need a new actuator (not sure how available they are) and then "installation is the reverse of disassembly"
    • I'm happy with the Lsailt unit that I put in, it puts full Android on the top screen so you can run whatever Nav and other Apps you want, while still existing inside the factory functionality like automatic reverse cams, audio input switching, retains factory bluetooth etc. Not cheap and the install was moderate (not simple, not hard) Yours is a V36 not V37 though right?
    • Yeap, all the NC's that I originally looked at that had a hard top were PRHT, which makes the roof line look horrible, hence why I said nope to them My only caveat for another MX5 was it needed to have a hard top, and initially I didn't think you could get a detachable hard top for the NC,  like my NB had Again, a big thanks to Matty for helping me source the detachable hard top for my little girl, they are as rare as hens teeth in Australia, and the few people who have them, keep them Also to Greg, for initially pointing me in the NC direction NC PRHT 🤢🤮 Not mine (I really should take more photos of my car), but a NC with the detachable hard top 😁 To me, the difference in how the detachable hard top roof line looks, and how it actually follows the bodies lines, like they do on NA's and NB's, is chalk and cheese compared to the bulbous looking PRHT
    • Haha good old Letterkenny! If you're looking for another great english canadian comedy, I strongly recommend Trailer Park Boys.
