stiff gearbox when cold

i have a r33 with about 87km on the clock

i find that until the gearbox gets warm it is quiet stiff, not hard to operate or change gear by any means, but it is quiet firm when shifting gear.

does this mean i need an oil change or maybe its a thick oil that is being used?

btw...how often should you change your gear box oil?

every 50,000 km's i think you should change - but it might be stock shitty oil

Personally i'd be changing the oil every 12mths. Throw in some Redline Shcokproof which will help the problem. It dramatically improved my shifting however it still takes a solid 5km of driving to get it warm.

do a search mate, but RedLine oil is a poular choice, you will need 4 Lt and it's about 100 ish bucks but you can only get it form certain dealers....

Redline has the consistency of honey when cold but looks like washing liquid.

Mine is hard to get into reverse when cold but really warms up quick as the Redline thins down as it heats.

This is normal.

I use Torco myself, seems quite good.

Stiff gearbox is normal when cold, but change the oil anyway. It'll feel better overall. Castrol VMX80 is a good cheap choice. Made heaps of difference to my car.
