I don't want something that drones when im crusing I would like it to be quitish but loud if I get up it but still sounds good. also are you guys getting good performance from running headers and cats?

Hi Joshua, I took a massive gamble getting a low cost HKS replica dual exhaust 2.5" Pipe with 4.5" Tip, with Titanium Tip Covers in which to find out that the pipes closest to the catalytic converters did not match up at all. However, Precision mufflers at Croydon were able to create custom pipes and weld them onto flanges to connect them. We ended up welding the tips to stick out a bit more so the white rear bumpers dont go black. They actually look pretty good IMO and sound nice and deep when rev'ing and quiet at idle. I'm pretty happy considering I spent less than 1K (although i think the middle man made 200 bucks off me prolly) to get it here , install it with custom bits. So if you have the money get the real thing http://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product/exhaust/muffler/fulldual/index.html. Prolly also consider the power gain/loss between x + y + dual pipes at certain ranges for performance. i also considered these at one stage INVIDIA GEMINI 101mm Dual Rolled Stainless Tip Catback Exhaust + HKS Hi-Power Dual Exhaust but want to do a few more mods and dont have that much cash to dump on my car... anyhow... Check out the pics. i'll let u judge for yourself.

thanks for your reply, it looks awesome I do have the money to spend and was looking at the borla, greddy and hks exhaust, I have looked at you tube clips but it is hard to know how loud they truly are and can be hard to know what they sound like. my mate has the invidia Gemini on his v35 and the whole exhaust tip hangs out the back and would like something a bit louder and sounds better as well.

I have a Motordyne Shockwave Tdx2 with ART pipes which has quite a nice note that isnt super loud (still fairly lound) but then sounds like someone has opened the gates to hell when you give it some! Would say it is one of the louder exhausts i have heard in my years. I have found it does drone going up hills and in lower gears at times but would say alot of that has to do with being an auto.

Borla is probably as quite as you'd get with still obtaining a loud euro-esque scream at WOT. If you want to hear it WOT pm me.

This is idle, but I have a loud engine bay, and Evo X alarms are super sensitive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaXmxY65kAQ

The youtube video is filmed with good mics so you could turn that up to get an idea of the idle.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
