TREGTR
It's not worth the cost. Buy NA for $4k, spend $3k getting it legal and fixed up, total at$7k. Buy turbo for $5-6k, profit. You can get much cheaper than 4k and about 2k will see engine and box, if you look at right place. Cars never a good investment, but they do make you happy and that's what is most important Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431233-mugabetown-whoretownin-at-its-worst/page/389/#findComment-7073316 Share on other sites

Cars never a good investment, but they do make you happy and that's what is most important Needs to be engineered. Needs to pass scrutiny to show that brakes and safety equipment will stand the newfound power. Needs to be straight and 100% or won't pass rego. Will need blue plates as well. All of which cost money. None of which is cheap. Hence why project ark didn't go ahead. After all the stuffing around, would be cheaper to just get a gtt. TREGTR
They're on their ps! They should be forced to drive NA's like I had to... These exemptions are BS It's a pretty silly law. If both cars weigh the same and follow the same speed limit and hit the same object... then stuffed if I know how limiting people's democratic right to choose a high powered car assists anything? Stooopid law made by equally stooopid ppl Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431233-mugabetown-whoretownin-at-its-worst/page/389/#findComment-7073319 Share on other sites

You don't need an engineer for this - just a blue slip equivalent, b/c it comes out in a production equivalent standard model and is within scope of legal engine capacity changes not requiring engineer sign off. I'll double check this for QLD, but NSW you pay $70 odd and it's a legal done deal following a brake test. Since the factory braking capacity is lower, that all needs to be changed - which means scrutineering to pass rwc. You can upgrade a motor no probs. go from a 2 to a 2.5 and that's fine. Whack a turbo on and that's where things get more complicated. I'm saying this because i spent ages on the phone to various specialists and govt depts when chants was hellbent on doing project ark. Nsw is far more lax with everything except EPA. cowdy
Nah Matt you gt it all wrong I have a work exemption to drive any car at work Then I wanted a r33 looked at power and weight and established that 19 years old will lose power so If I take that into consideration it should be under (even if it made more than factory it only had to be 170kwatw) so I was all sweet and did it on the power to weight principal and it had to be 125/tone mine wax 83.5/tone Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431233-mugabetown-whoretownin-at-its-worst/page/389/#findComment-7073343 Share on other sites
cowdy
Let me settle this one for you both. If the car came with say qd32 you can whack a qd32t in there (did this recently all legal) That is because 4wd and factory sold here and both factory options nothing changes but turbo added Import. Usually they updrage other things to deal with the turbo eg brakes this has to be sighted at an inspection station before and after the process and then you are all good and only need the piece of paper I your glove box Nicks case if you go away from factor options then it's mod plate Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431233-mugabetown-whoretownin-at-its-worst/page/389/#findComment-7073358 Share on other sites

cowdy
Not really we got the car. It had a boost leak and I thought lets not fix it till after dyno and they left the aircon on because my pop told them I wanted a low power reading. Also they only took it to 4500 because it was playing up a lot back then Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431233-mugabetown-whoretownin-at-its-worst/page/389/#findComment-7073365 Share on other sites
TiTAN
Titan's old car now well on its way. Purchased and fitted guards, inners, doors, series 2 reo and bar, SCI suspension components, 4.3 diff, series 2 interior including seats. Tip: series 1 and series 2 white aren't quite the same, but most couldn't tell fairly quick progress. TREGTR
fairly quick progress. I was at Skyline Spares and just kept saying Yes, Yes and more Yes Ps: they also have an excellent stock of Evo 7,8, and 9 parts. At least 7 evos there being wrecked. TiTAN
mine has all the bits it needs for now. only bits would be maybe ADM spec seats, because im not as skinny as the japanese people the seats were designed for, but thats likely to set me back a few $$. Picked up a set of Koya deep dish 18s too. They look really good. You'd be surprised at the prices. There are plenty of aftermarket components there too. Saw sets of the seats you are referring to there. TREGTR
I was at the Sydney Motorsports park conference last year on the nationalisation of vehicle modifications. There were plenty of QLD engineers in attendance. The overall view was that it was easier and cheaper to do modifications in QLD and the NSW engineers were whinging about this to the forum. They are currently aligning all states. My RB26/30 fully engineered in QLD. Very difficult to engineer in NSW.
