Mugabetown - Whoretownin' At It's Worst.

Martin 1, Leopard 0.

Had to get the alternator out of the bastard, thought for sure that would be an engine out job, but turns out it isn't! Was quite a battle but I got it out in the end, although there was literally millimetres in it, any worse and it would have been engine out for sure. Not quite sure how I'm going to get it back in :S but will cross that bridge when I get to it.

Also, turns out she has Takata belts, who knew?

How are both the cars Martin?

Leopard will probably be up for sale very soon. Alternator is dead but I'm replacing it, tried that silicone spray trick on the seat belts but it didn't seem to help.

Wedge is going fine. Clutch pedal got noisy the other day but I sprayed a f*ck tonne of silicone spray on it seems to have sorted it out :). Still using oil, haven't looked again to see if it's leaking or burning it though. Probably retire her from daily duties soon so that will give me a chance to sort it out

Re mystery oil burning, In my old R32 i was always losing oil slowly, turned out it was an oil seal in the turbo that just let little bits out constantly, it was a small enough amount that it would burn up instantly and not cause noticeable smoke but it was enough to almost empty the damn sump if you forgot to keep an eye on it!

Does anyone know if the pistons on R34 GTT brakes (F&R) are the same size as Z32 brakes? I know the rotors are different sizes... Not sure about the acutal pistons though...
they are the same Tony

Wish my car came with brembos :(

Will have to get a set of bigger brakes sometime this year. Unsure of direction to go. Kit out of china, Brembo's off of r34, Evo Brembos... lots of choices.

brembos from other cars ie R34 GTR are a poor upgrade...........save and get a big brake kit........I'm not a fan of Chinese brakes hence why I have AP Racing 6 pot brake kit

Brembo F50 / GT kit, Endless, Trust / Alcon all quality brakes but expensive

    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
    • Yeah, I would have said the same. It makes me suggest that there are other things wrong, such that the ECU is totally unhappy with the broken sensor. The only other thought here is that maybe it is shorted, which might cause a different issue to the typical "disconnected" sensor.
