Mugabetown - Whoretownin' At It's Worst.

Recommended Posts

After a few the oil in the SS got so hot after only a few hot laps on the weekend I'm seriously looking into a cooler for it. What are the views on thermostats? Required or not, remembering that my car gets used as a daily.

We rarely get cold enough to warrant a thermostat imo

This is what I was thinking but I also read a lot of posts (admittedly not on australian websites) recommending against running without one. Anyone running without one? Does your oil come up to temp fast enough?

I have had 2 cars without one and had no issues. In the depths of winter I have heard of people blocking some of the flow to the cooler but they were Sydney people.

I guess I could always add one later on if needed.

Greg do you think I was born yesterday, actually don't answer that lol. I'm not into leopards...

Interesting way to go. Same motor that is in the new CLA maybe? I was reading an article the other day that predicted in 20 years there would only be 6 car manufacturers and even the likes of BMW might not be big enough to survive on their own.

    • No requirement for JDM vehicles,  which the 33 is, maroney label only needed in the US market for new cars I believe (Federal law stuff) Google knows all
    • Hopefully you can just unbolt them, thank them for their service, then bin them and not replace them Apparently the sensors like to set them off with only minor impacts at low speed It looks like they do a delete kit for some of these, but, it is costly
    • I hope it's actually possible. This is a write off in insurance world.
    • Yup. 2-way with shallow ramp angles. Still works.
    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
