Hey guys,

I dart from Sydney to Canberra often. My plates are NSW. My rego is due, and Im not heading back to syd JUST to get a rego check..

My question is, does anyone know any places in qbn or even canberra that are fairly reasonable with mod's cars? Email me at [email protected] if dont want to publicly advertise such places.

Thanks heaps.

NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry mate but ur out of luck if u think u can get it done anywhere else other than dickson.

nik(amaru) can attest to this for me. i bought mine a few months ago and had to get it changed to canberra rego from n.s.w. and just b4 this a new law was passed that no one other than dickson are allowed to rego check and pass vehicles. i had ed at tez (champion) check it out for me as i thought i could get around it, but he called and they wouldnt allow it.

i had some of the guys from syndicate check it out for me to tell me what i needed to remove to pass(huge thanks for their time) but in the end i took it to Dickson as it was hoping they would pin me on ride height or something and then let me pass when i came back .......anyway the guys there were great blokes and let a few things slide 4 me, in the end all i had to do was install a high mount brake light and they passed me.

ask for Dave when you get it checked, he's a great bloke and did everything he could to help me.

so to answer your question: only dickson can rego check ur car now, nowhere else can...period.

hey andrew,

Thanks for the info. What I meant was, Im not planning to transfer my nsw plates over to act ones. I live in nsw, and want to stick with my nsw rego :)

I know I can go to any rego place in qbn and get them to check out my car, but it would seem down in qbn a few places do not like the looks of a mod'd car, much less an import that they know nothing about.

Thanks for the post though.

Call Ed at Integra Automotive in Queanbeyan (at the Ampol Service Station on Lanyon Drive) and tell him Nik sent you. Im not sure if he can do nsw rego checks there (pink slips arnt they?) but its worth a try, and if not he will tell you someone who can.

Thanks Nik Ill check him out.

Im always caught in Canberra come rego time. I had a check done at a qbn service place in my gti-r and they opened the bonnet and insisted my turbo setup was aftermarket and they didnt want to touch it.

After a bit of sweet talking, and showing them as much info on the GTIR as i had on my at the time, they very relucantly checked it and pink slipped me, with a 'now dont ever come back here again ya here' :)

Haha fair enough, well Ed is pretty cool he doesnt see things and go "oh modified car, i dont want anything to do with it", but if there is any illegal things he will fail you, hes not dodgy :P

On that note though, he certainly does love his performance cars, and he is now the only person I take mine to for anything.

no fair enough. not looking for dodge, just fairness. the only things people in the know might querie is the pod filter, and bov. But im so sick of ppfftt that im taking that back to stock anyhow, but maybe not b4 inspection. but other than that, my car is legal as safety goes, its not worth the hassle these days to be pulled up for crap, you can quite reasonably make a performance car perform the legal way just as well :P [kinda]

Ill drop by anyhow and have a talk. :)

    • I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.
    • Ahhhh... If you were putting 12V to the led in there, that's likely made it very unhappy. Chances are how you put power, was 12V across an LED that's meant to only have about 20mA through it at peak, and a forward voltage of about 1.8 to 2.4 volts. That circuit is likely only a 3V3 circuit, and will have a resistor in series with the led too. That's my guesstimate on that light, without having touched one.
    • Another vote for installing them and see how you go.  I mean, you already own them, why would you not fit them?
    • I have had too many of those over the years, my cars have a toolkit or at minimum a cheapy multi tool thing because its too easy to be snookered by some stupid plastic clip that stops you checking the battery terminal isn't loose.
    • Basically, if there is a part# on the nissan catalogue, it is a genuine part. There is a thing called "new old stock" which is stuff made years ago but never sold (or landfilled), but it is super hit and miss what you can buy. Other than some expensive Nismo stuff there is nothing new being made that suits these cars. The only time to be a little careful is (mostly in the US I think, but maybe Japan too), Nissan started rebranding some cheap crap maintenance parts like oil filters as "Pitworks"; stay away from them, if you are buying cheap just buy whatever the local car parts shop carries The three part numbers have an explanation on Amayama: 0V005 is auto, base style 0V015 is manual 0V505 is auto, hectic momo branded ones, maximum F&F points there!
