Hi

My drivers side electric window motor seems to be on the way out so I thought I would open it up and check if a DIY fix is possible.

The panel/trim came off without to much bother but getting to the motor and mechanism seems to be impossible due to it being behind the inner metal door skin which does not seem to unbolt and in fact seems to be spot welded to the outer door skin.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the motor and mechanism out?

Thanks

Stretch

Can you post up a picture or 2 ? There must be access of some sort as the motor wouldve been put in there after the inner and outer skins wouldve been spot welded together on the assembly line

You have to unbolt the glass from the rails first.

There are access holes on the inner skin to get to the various bolts depending on the position of the window slider rails.

The large hole is basically where you pull the reg assy out after setting it up so it is 'compact' to remove.

A workshop manual would be really handy right now!

GTRsean , on closer inspection you are correct, there is space to unbolt and remove the mechanism/motor.

Do you think the plastic sheet that is glued to the door skin is really needed when putting the door card back on?

But more importantly it looks like cleaning and greasing the tracks for the window is going to sort the issue out, so hopefully no need for a new motor.

I will confirm after the weekend.

Yes it is really needed otherwise it wouldnt be there in the first place, the goop holding it on is soft so if you carefully peel it back when accessing that area then it should be okay to put back on

When you wash the car a certain amount of water makes it's way past the window glass and seals, then it drains out the bottom of the door.

The plastic sheet helps with moisture control so that the door trim doesn't slowly rot away :)

Most new cars don't have it because the door trim is all plastic...

So I managed to grease all the relevant tracks and pivots and the window is now working OK.

Was so much faster it highlighted that the passenger side needed doing as well.

Also got the plastic sheet back on OK.

Thanks for the input gents

    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
