Hi guys . Anyone have using coilover on their v36?

as my front stock shock is leaking oil badly ,need to replace one shock ,SO I am thinking it might be a good chance to get a coilover .I am not sure which brand is good and value for v36 ,any idea?

I got RS-R suspension which came with the car from Japan. Its quite stiff on sydney road but cornering is flat shows no sign of body roll with rather heavy 1660kg.

Most ppl on the infiniti forum in the states recommend

Tein SSP (value)

KW V3 Variant (Expensive but one of the best)

I've got both the KW V3 (on the car now) and the RS-R Black (in the garage)

The RS-R was pretty stiff and quite low for me, so I upgraded. KW V3 is pretty awesome, no where near as harsh as the JP-spec coilovers

Hi guys,

I'm after something more firm while still being comfortable.

My V36 is quite 'roll-y', especially compared to my previous R34 which had an extensive HKS setup with shocks and all kinds of polyurathane bushes etc by the previous owner. It's amazing how much more enjoyable the car was with sporty suspension.

I put a Whiteline front sway bar in for $200 (bar - I supplied) + $200 (labour) and it made a good difference, but still not quite enough.

1. How would those with the KW V3 rate the upgrade?

2. What is the approx labour to fit these shocks if supplied?

3. Does anyone know the life expentance of the factory shocks - mines a Dec 07 / 55,000 km... what condition are my factory ones by now?

i have Zeal function coilovers in my V35, very happy with them as a compromise between handling and comfort. the car is used for trackdays but also daily driven. they are a good mid-level coilover providing great performance and quality (made in japan) for reasonable price. they are also available for your application (V36s) with various spring rates and valving.

'what coilovers' is a very broad question without knowing what requirements you have..do you want progressive or fixed rate springs? steel or aluminium construction? remote reservoir? are you using the car for motorsport?street or r-compound tyres?what budget?

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
    • Well the articals keep saying a Q50s (Skyline in Japan) with a new Manual gearbox. I like the talk about the new looks with the round tail lights. I hope they bring back the retro look like they did with the Z
