Howdy,

Had this S15 for a couple of years. Car was my daily running around 200rwkw. In April this year the pressure plate exploded, destroying gearbox, bellhousing, starter motor, windscreen and ripped the flange off the back of the motor.

Was pretty upset at the time but took the opportunity to take it off the road and build something cool. Always wanted a rb Silvia, this is my chance, firewall was alreasy bashed from the explosion so it was a sign haha.

This is how it sat before I took it off the road.

Plan is to go a R34 Neo motor, E85 and a precision 6266 twin scroll.

Then started the slow process of removing the old motor and all the stuff form the engine bay.

Filled the big holes with epoxy steel, then a metal reinforced filler, then a body filler.

Still needs one more layer of filler and a sand before I get the engine bay painted. Motors going in and out a bit atm so leaving engine bay bare.

Engine Acc. Loom was a major pain in the ass to remove. Had to pull the dash as the previous owner had wired in the alarm and headunit etc... with no thought put into it.

Scored a R34 GT-T brake setup for a steal $450 front and rear with hubs, knuckles, calipers, pads and rotors etc...

Got some RDA drilled and slotted rotors, still havent decided on pads. Will wait till car is closer to completion.

Straight swap, hand brake cables pretty much line up like the S15 cables.

Just had to get front hubs drilled out to 14mm. Got a race car builder to do this as I've heard its a major pain in the ass without proper drilling equipment,

Found a R32 Cross member to mount the motor.

Seen better days, looks like someone oxyd a bolt out of it. Did not notice it until I got home.

Got it fixed with a new washer tig welded in the existing hole. Then took a wire drill bit, went to town on it and gave it a paint.

I rebuilt the top end with a full Nissan gasket kit, water pump, ARP studs etc..

Replaced timing belt and tensioners etc.. with a Gates Racing Kit, been advised to replace idler pulley bolt as they have snapped from using the tighter racing belt. Replaced the bolt just in case.

Got the head ground and chem cleaned

Motor is in the car. I need to get either the subframe or brackets cut and shut to move the motor back. Definitely sits nice and low though.

If I can move the motor back about 30mm, I can fit thermofans on the radiator as pullers, use a pusher on the A/C Condensor and keep aircon :)

I did consider slotting cross member but its not possible with the r32 xmember, can be done with the 33. Will be getting subframe modded when i send it off for exhaust and intercooler piping.

Hopefully have the car done march/april next year, fund after new years are low lol.

Bought most of the big expensive stuff, still need a clutch NPC quoted me about $1250 for a single plate organic that will hold 450rwkw with a billet flywheel.

Mate is spraying engine bay for free :) still gotta pay for the tubs to be fitted and the wiring.

Its from rc-turbo.com think u can buy through eBay.

Cost me about $1100 with the throttle body. Solid welds, individual runners, flat surfaces etc can't see why it wouldn't perform like any other decent manifold .. couldn't justify money on a plazmaman/Greddy

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
