Hi guys last night I was driving with the Mrs to her house, HWY patrol past me in the other direction and saw me so did a U-Turn, I was right around the corner from her house and I pulled into her driveway, with no sirens or flashing lights they pull in behind me, breath tested and drug tested me and all was clear, then they proceeded to pop my bonnet, I got defected for BOV, bald tyres and apparently too low although the car is 125mm off the floor at the lowest point but I was parked on a shitty slope type surface her driveway.

Now I got a yellow sticker and can't drive it after 4:15pm tomorrow and have a full inspection at botany HVIS.

On the defect paper it states.

1. Vehicle ground clearance - to comply.

2. Aftermarket exhaust - to comply.

3. Check legality & performance of vehicle braking system - to comply.

4. Check legality & performance of vehicle suspension system - to comply.

5. Check legality & performance of all (4) wheels and tyres - to comply.

6. Blow off valve fitted - to comply.

Major Defect and yellow label.

The defect must be cleared by a/at full inspection ticked and light vehicle ticked, also Authorised Heavy Vehicle Inspection Station (HVIS) ticked.

Questions that I need help with please, and yes I have searched but it looks like I'm completely hopeless with that.

1. Will my car pass with Tien Coilovers which I can only adjust the spring load on and not height.

2. Will it pass with the factory tinted rear windows as they brought that up aswell.

3. On my compliance Engineers Certificate wheel/tyre size is 225/45/17 front and rear 235/45/17, will I pass with fronts 225/40/18 and rear 255/35/18 - they didn't complain about wheel size yesterday.

4. Will I pass with my pod filter although it has an aluminium box.

5. Front mount intercooler although it's tucked in behind my bar no extrusions etc.

6. I have a 3inch full exhaust with cat, and exas evo tune catback, will that also pass or will it be too loud.

7. If I just take my aftermarket wing off and put stickers over the wing holes will that also pass.

Thank you for any help in advance and I'm so sorry if this has been already covered, most likely it has but like I said forgive me please I'm hopeless with the search function, thanks.

I got nothing important to commit to the topic but I got a return question - can't you just get it cleared by a mechanic who does blue slips or do they actually require you to drive to their inspection centre?

I wish that was the case, unfortunately the popo ticked the HVIS which is the rta heavy vehicle inspection station, where they normally love to rape people.

Good luck dude - it sucks sometimes how they target us as opposed to real crims!

Yeah I know, I even told them, I pointed out this Ford Laser 80's model to them across the road and told them that they should really be pulling those cars over and not us as we would check our brakes, safety system etc, plus on top have abs, stability control etc, the laser across the road is a nightmare, oil leaks everywhere, brakes squeal like a pig getting tortured, bloke barely stops, scariest part is that the fuel leaks out of the fuel cap/flap on a hot day lol.

Theo Syriopoulos head of SYRIOPS Engineers delivered a talk alongside myself 3 months ago at Canterbury.

He does Engineering Certificates and assists to clear defects.

For starters, you'll need to get replacement tyres and a plumb-back, but you can call him on 0402651759 or 02-95336737 to get some expert advice.

He's stationed at 172 Belmore Rd North Riverwood

Do you have to go to a certain workshop or can you choose where to go? That will make the biggest difference in this situation.

I learnt this recently. I got done for alot more than what you did. We went back to stock on most of what I got done for, and come blue slip day the bloke told me he doesnt mind passing me even if it was the same as when I was defected...

Mine was ticked AUVIS, it is strange you got HEAVY vehicle inspection station ticked...

That's why I was confused - skyline isn't a heavy vehicle... Should just be an AUVIS defect. :S

Unfortunatly it used to be like that, rules have changed, they can follow you into your driveway as long as they saw you 50+ meters away from you're home or any private property, although if you're at your residential address they can't breath test you or drug test you but if you're on someone elses property they can.

Quick update:

Screamer pipe is off - and I can say I'm glad lol, I think I'm getting too old, it actually started to get annoying.

Blow off valve done.

Gonna do a full service tomorrow just in case they do an emissions test and it will help with that a little - new spark plugs, fresh oil etc.

Ordered the tyres and am going tomorrow to get them fitted.

Booked for Thursday so I'll see how I go and if it doesn't pass I will know exactly what I need to do, I will keep use updated, thanks.

Sounds like they ticked the wrong box mate, defects cleared, lol nah seriously wasting time going to a heavy vehicle station, I would call the botany station directly and find out if they do light vehicle inspections also. No point heavy vehicle inspectors checking your car, they would know what to look for, and personal experience, I've used a mechanic shop to clear defects for my gtr, but the same shop also cleared defects on the work truck I drove for the company I worked for. If the f**kup the paper work, it should simply void the defect/infringement notice. If we f**kup and forget to carry or licence we cop a fine, for something we possess. Shit gets my blood boiling. Unfortunantly again, heavy vehicle inspection is what they call the (pits), the strictest inspection, I did call today and made an appointment and they did confirm that yes they do defects, again you gotta love the Australian law brother, they can make the rules as they please and in what mood their in, and if they did do something wrong they have covered their arses by calling it a simple typographical error and the defect still applies - on my previous car I got defected and they wrote down a completely different make/model of car and I tried fighting about it but all I got back is it was human error a typographical error, it's ok I'm happy, got a call from my lawyer after he spoke to the commissioner today because I called him to come down as he lives around the corner when I got pulled over, she is in some trouble as since September 2012 they aren't allowed to show their tattoos, they have to cover them with long sleeve shirts etc, she on the other hand had a full sleeve tattoo uncovered - don't get me wrong I have nothing against tattoo's, I love them, but she wants to be an arsehole well payback is a biatch, thanks.

Not too sure on that one, I really don't believe so though, although the bastards might say something along the lines of power to weight or strength or come up with some kind of crap, I will find out in the morning for you and let you know, thanks.

So he is able to provide engineering certificates? I am looking for advice for my build and an engineering certificate for all my modifications..

    • The sodium acetate, mixed with citric acid, doesn't actually buffer each other. Interestingly though, if you used Sodium Acetate, and acetic acid, THAT becomes a buffer solution. Additionally, a weak acid that can attack a metal, is still a weak acid that can attack a metal. If you don't neutralise it, and wash it off, it's going to be able to keep attacking. It works the same way when battery acid dries, get that stuff somewhere, and then it gets wet, and off it goes again breaking things down. There's a reason why people prefer a weak acid, and it's because they want TIME to be able to be on their side. IE, DIY guys are happy to leave some mild steel in vinegar for 24 hours to get mill scale off. However, if you want to do it chemically in industry, you grab the muriatic acid. If you want to do it quicker at home, go for the acetic acid if you don't want muriatic around. At the end of the day, look at the above thumbnail, as it proves what I said in the earlier post, you can clean that fuel tank up all you want with the solution, but the rust that has now been removed was once the metal of the fuel tank. So how thin in spots is your fuel tank getting? If the magazine on the left, is the actual same magazine as on the right, you'll notice it even introduces more holes... Well, rust removal in general actually does that. The fuel tank isn't very thick. So, I'll state again, look to replace the tank, replace the fuel hanger, and pump, work out how the rust and shit is making it past the fuel filter, and getting into the injectors. That is the real problem. If the fuel filter were doing its job, the injectors wouldn't be blocked.
    • Despite having minimal clothing because of the hot weather right now, I did have rubber gloves and safety glasses on just in-case for most of the time. Yes, I was scrubbing with my gloves on before, but brushing with a brush removes the remaining rust. To neutralize, I was thinking distilled water and baking soda, or do you think that would be overkill?
    • You can probably scrub the rust with a toothbrush or something. After you get the rust off flush well with water to neutralize and you will probably want to also use a fuel tank sealer to keep it from rusting again.
    • The sodium citrate solution is designed to buffer the citric acid to keep it from attacking metal quite so much, the guy that came up with that recipe did a ton of testing on how much metal loss occurs over time and it's nothing crazy unless you forget about it for months:   
    • Ohhh I see lol To be honest the main reason why I wanted to start modding is because of a business trip to Japan and Indonesia. I saw many cool and modded cars all throughout in these countries, especially Japan. I myself am of Chinese+Japanese nationality and when living in china (never lived in Japan js my dad side lol) I remember staring at these cars pass by with their loud tacky exhausts and insane wide body kits. And when I went back to Japan, I got even more invested even asking people about their cars and why they modded. Most gave similar answers to what you said but funny enough one guy just said that he saw the need for speed movie being filmed once in Tokyo I think near Shibuya Crossing and got inspired to tune and mod. After that I just started to fantasize on owning a car like that. Also tbh I prefer the R32 over the R34 it's just the R34 is more iconic lol (also apparently better aftermarket support than the R32) and my only goal really is just to make the car mine and make it fun to drive. As much as I love my Cayenne it's pretty bland to drive. Sure the interior is nice and pretty, gives you attention yada yada but I've wanted to experience what it is like to have a car that is truly yours. I suppose thats the goal so far. Haha if you find where I'm from, then sure. Ill help you out on your next "financial decision"
