Car currently has HKB boss and knackered Italvolanti wooden wheel.

Looking to replace with leather trimmed wheel close to original size, (370mm)? to lighten steering effort at parking speeds for wifey.

Not interested in wank factor of $$$$ wheel. Just something decent. Any suggestions? Shops, websites etc?

thanks,

Max.

If your power steering/HICAS is working correctly, the low speed steering is light enough to park with one hand.

Look for second hand, good condition MOMO, Nardi, or standard wheel. I have a Nardi that needs retrimming for cheap, PM me if interested.

I just bought a Omp one off ebay for 95 dollars looks good and is pretty strong and feels good it's like a fuzzy material

You mean suede?

What do people do about padding in the center of their wheel? I always knew it it was illegal to have a non padded center.

I got pulled over on Friday and got told off for it.

Thanks. I suspect that the steering is heavier than it should be but I do not know enough to verify this. Mechanic who tuned the car says HICAS is locked out. I am thinking of finding a a specialist steering / suspension shop to have a look at it. Can anyone recommend somewhere within striking distance of St. George / Sutherland area of Sydney?

Better off taking it to someone that knows Nissan cars. Unigroup sound to be good. You also have CRD. I never used a workshop so I can't recommend. Check under your parcel shelf in the boot, driver's side. If there's a computer still there, plug in the bigger plug on the right. That keeps the power steering thing active but doesn't activate the HICAS crap. Assuming you have everything else in place besides the lock bar.

I reckon 330mm is a good size. Wouldn't go bigger than 350mm, you're not driving a bus :P.

My dilemma too. I have a retrimmed stocky but it's 370mm in size. Same thing as gtr jet - got told off by the cops about my Sparco suede one.

May just "put up" with the re-trimmed stocky?

I'd keep my stock wheel if it wasn't rooted but I can buy 3 after market wheels for the price it will cost to get re trimmed.

Do you like the look of my stocky?

I'll let you into a little secret - my one just has a $15 eBay leather cover sewn onto it. I'll find the link for you if you're interested. Get your GF/Mum to sew it on and you're done.

It's not really to my taste but if it comes to the point where I'd have to run it on the street then I'll buy one.

    • Yeah I also looked at Plazmaman, but, it ended up alot  cheaper getting black ones through EFI when you also added in the delivery cost
    • Nice shot! They look super clean. The roof rack delete on the black one is interesting. Would like to see more pictures from different angles. It's subtle but could make quite a difference to how the car looks in profile.
