Hi all, i have done a big search for oil filter kits on SAU and a few other websites and not much came up.

any way i am halfway through taking the RB25 out of the silvia, and i have noticed that it is impossible to get access to the oil filter with the engine in.

i figure the simplest solution would be to get a remote oil filter kit, and possibly an oil cooler while i am at it if funds permit.

nothing much came up in the searches, and i do not want to pay for name brand jap stuff.

wondering if anyone can help me as to what is available?? (i remeber someone told me ages ago about one you can buy).

Ok i just did a bit of research with my mate from autobarn...

for $99 you can get the Earls aluminium fittings (two pieces). These are different depending on the type of oil filter your car runs (eg Z-144 etc).

Then you need to go to somewhere like Pirtek or any good hydraulic fitting piping shop.

get 4 brass screw in fittings to suit the earls blocks. 2 lengths of high pressure/high temp oil line too suit these fittings and 4 clamps to clamp each end of the hose.

this should only cost you $50 all up.

so for $150 you should be on the road + oil filter and oil change while your at it.

1 big important thing to remember is although its as simple as changing an oil filter, REMEMBER to wrap the thread of the brass fittings with plumbers tape or else they will leak under pressure.

hope this helps

Well speculation aside, I bought a serc oil cooler, take off plate, remote filter mount, thermostat, hydraulic dash fittings (not earls fancy ar5e ones, industrail ones) and used industrial internally braided hydraulic oil line.

I had Clint32 make up the lines (fit the dash fittings, and cut the hydraulic line to size, use hoist) for a very reasonable price (around $50 from memory). I bought some aluminium strap to make a mounting bracket for the remote oil filter and oil cooler.

Costs:

Oil cooler: (serc 32 row) around $250 on special from GCG

fittings and hydraulic hose: around $150

Thermostat: $75 from autobarn (earls ones are around $140)

take off: around $50

remote mount: around $50

Clint32s fee (best labour charges in town:)): $50

It took a while, and ended up costing more than $600. If I had used earls dash fittings, braided line and billet take off/remote and thermostat, I would expect the price would have been alot closer to $1K. Labour if reconed in for making brakets would have been a couple of hours to figure how/where to fit them. Plus the strap, I had to buy 4m as they didnt sell in any smaller lengths and I couldnt find off cuts.

So next time you think the jap kits are expensive, try pricing up every fitting, braided line, and oil cooler.

IMHO, they represent pretty good value for money if you are after the full annodized fitting/billet/braided line deal.

    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
