well im not gonna say much but he built a mates engine spent about $30,000 and my mate had to rebuilt it.

i went in there the other week and he was the rudest guy i have ever met.

The way hje spoke to me i would not recomend him.

i would goto Unique auto sports in Castle hill buddy, there really nice and they will make a great setup for you

my 2 cents...

Craig, its not terribly hard to work out who you are talking about.

I would ask that any comments wether positive or negative concerning the quality of work carried out by a workshop be based on your own experience, not that of your mate.

While I have never had mechanical work done at Advan, I have always found Peter to be very helpful especially considering my tendancy to go there at the busiest of times!

I've been in there before when i owned my last car, a puple Corolla, riced up, showy to the max. All i wanted were some TRD shoulder pads for seat belt. He was awesome, wanted to help, everything. I was totally impressed.

Went in there with a friend who has a GTR and wanted a full 4" exhaust, and the same guy Pete i think? Was fairly rude, but hey, he was really busy so it wasn't really his fault, but it left a bad impression on my friend, despite me telling him how good the previous experience was.

The problem is that people tend to expect such a high level of service but they fail to realise that many performance shops get VERY VERY busy and when you have customers in every direction and its all happening it can be hard to give that extra attention that some people look for.

I think also, that to a degree alot of people tend to feel like they have some special rapport with the shop and go in thinking they'll rop everything to chat to you but they have hundreds of "mates" and on their side they try to do the right thing by all of you...but sometimes yes a short fuse is a let down of a lot of places and I don't think they have nailed the stress under pressure thing yet ;-)

I went in there with Aurora looking for an exhaust last year. There were *no* customers in the store when we went in, and he really didnt look all that busy. I asked for a price on a Trust exhaust and he just grunted, pointed at an exhaust hanging on the roof and said "is that all?" and walked off. There was no price marked on the exhaust, nothing, so I left. I used to work in retail and do know some people want the highest level of service, but I believe Im not one of these people. I actually *hate* talking to sales reps, id prefer to just research what I want before hand, go into a shop and buy it. But when something doesnt have a price on it, it makes it difficult.

I dont know who it was who served me, wether he was having a bad day or not, but it takes all of 30 seconds to look up a price on something. I know if I owned the business id rather spend 30 seconds looking up a price and possibly getting a sale out of it, than ignoring people in the store and definately loosing money out of it.

But as Blitz said above, look at the quality of there cars, they still seem to be able to do some *extremely* impressive work, and thats what it comes down to. However you are treated there is what counts, if you feel like they deserve your money, so be it, shouldnt be based entirely on other peoples experiences

Guest two.06l
hey guys

What do u all think of Advan on silverwater road...went there yesterday and they impressed me...i know Advan is pretty big but how do they stack up to others?

thanx guys

hows this for service.bought a set of brembo brakes and calipers friday before drag combat(from a well known sydney importer),as the cars front discs developed cracks on the thursday.went to fit them friday night and one caliper was not going to fit ie.was not from a skyline.drove at 7.00am from one side of sydney to the other to return them and see if they had some standard rotors in stock to get us out of trouble.they did not have any so on the way out to eastern creek started ringing workshops.after 5 different importers/workshops rang advan, peter hopkins(skyline legend and all round good guy) answered the phone(he was only there to pick up his car).yeah mate i think i have a set of them lying around here somewhere ill bring them out to the track.at 9.30 peter shows up with the rotors and by 10.00 the boys from DIRT racing had me at scrutineering, and ready to race.like i said peter is one of the nicest most honest people you will ever come across in an industry full of people who are not so forthright.......p.s.we were competing in the same class as peter and his efforts allowed us to not only win the round but also the series.... thanks pete

Spoke to Peter a few months ago just enquiring about some parts..he was very upfront and frank about the ones I was asking about, and I appreciated him saying that..instead of just giving me a price he asked about my goals and gave me some good advice.

Well as for being rude, i have chewed Peters ear repeatedly, and he has always been helpful, polite and i dont cringe when he starts talking (he opens his mouth and the info that flows has been credible)

I feel embarressed that i bother him with my enquiries which he has always been helpful with, and the only business i have given him has been a $50 wiring job... he sees me coming knows im a backyard butcher mechanic that isnt about to spend a lot of money, yet he still helps....

I think I know who it is too!

But be that as it may... I haven't spent too much at Advan (not a huge fan of his line) but everytime I go there *SOMEONE* has time to talk and give some advice. For a big name shop with some admittedly healthy prices I find it surprising because there are a lot of other places that don't want to know unless you're willing to stump the cash.

T.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
