Hey guys. After searching unsuccessfully I'm starting a post for the first time in a long time.

I've got a S1 '94 R33 GTST, got 197xxx km's, have had for about 3 years. Haven't had any issues apart from a clutch up until around 3 months ago when it started being a real bitch. Left it over the weekend, around 2-3 days of no driving, just sitting outside. Jumped in to go somewhere, started up, stalled immediately. Got it going after a few repeats of this problem, got over it, fine, okay, moving on.

Since then, it's started to cut out when coming to a stop at lights etc. Not often, usually kicks back up with a hit of the key. But not too long after, it's now cutting out whilst driving, whether it's cruising, under load, under boost, whatever. It will sometimes cut out completely (take it out of gear and the engine will stall) and cut back in a second later or sometimes I'm having to pull over and switch the ignition off and re-start the engine to get it to come back to life. I cannot for the life of me replicate any scenario that causes it to cut, it's completely random.

I'm a mechanic by trade and this is completely doing my head in cause I'm struggling to diagnose the issue. I've put it on scan tools to check the OBD and it's not registering any fault codes in the ECU at all.

So. Anyone had similar issues? If so, what was the cause?

I'm due to do a timing belt within the month and was thinking of replacing the CAS but I don't want to spend $400+ on a new sensor and find the problem hasn't gone away.

Help much appreciated.

I work with a company who specialise in repairing PCB's and instruments. I'll take it there. Thanks man. I'll bump to let you know how it goes.

Namiss gauges and instruments - Newcastle NSW. Good people.

Bit of a late update.

Pulled AFM out, got the PCB inspected and resoldered, threw it back in, driving home from work it shit the gear completely, went into rich mode hard and wouldn't rev above 2500 rpm. So obviously AFM shit itself. Replaced with remanufactured unit and all good.

Now, when getting into it, full boot and around 4500-5000 rpm it hesitates a bit. Computer re-adjusting fuel maps? Timing (I just did a timing belt the day after replacing AFM, but did it to the letter from the manual)?

I have had a similar problem, my 33 GTST was cutting out spitting and coughing when under load (even felt like boost leak and wasnt getting as much psi), my AFM was ok, I replaced fuel pump and still had the problem, had a pressure test done and there was a hairline crack in a hose, the hose that goes to IAC valve (Idle Air Control) and it runs like a dream! sounds like a similar situation JackVGX3.0 im not saying this hose is your problem but might pay to check it out!! :)

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
