So today I receive on my window from Mr Councilman a $170 fine. I was parked in a free council carpark.

Offence: Stopping on or near a pedestrian crossing (except at an intersection) - does this mean we can park on intersections with a crossing in Brisbane???

I will be checking if there is any warnings upon entering the carpark tomorrow about fines, rules, regulations about parking there. As I'm pretty sure fair trading says there must be adequate signage warning penalties.

Anyways do I stand a chance to fight it as i wasn't parked on a pedestrian crossing, it was a foot crossing (will also check if these are marked and signed) and I don't believe the paint on the road is a crossing of any sort as it leads nowhere.

I have seen fines issued in this carpark for parking in disability areas without a permit but never on these white lines, plus no fines on cars for parking in non carpark spaces and the middle of the carpark, or grassed areas.

Do these fines go to SPER as the back of the ticket says so, but it may be a ploy to make people pay the fine.

$170 is BS........ any help be great thanks!!!

what's the definition of 'near'?

Usually 4-6 meters as judged by the parking "police"

So what it really means is whatever makes them the most cash to fill their quota baby!

All good, spoke to a lawyer and sent in dispute for it to be withdrawn as it there is no signage at all which goes against Fair Trading Act and Australian Consumer Law.

I've got a similar complaint going through, no picture evidence, but they 'claim' the car was never moved....it actually was to run an errand and parked back in the same 4P spot. Waiting for BCC to supply the Tertiary degree for the parking officer pertaining to his expertise in vehicular forensics that led him to confirm the car had not moved. A chalk line doesn't cut it, I've still got a chalk line on the car 2 weeks later that looks fresh!
