Help Identify This Cable Please

Hello all, new to the forums and apologies if I posted on the wrong section. I undid my steering column cover on my R33 GTST to change the globe for ignition keyhole surround and noticed that a white plastic bracket with a metal bit inside connected to a cable was just hanging inside the steering column cover, I tried to connect it where it is supposed to go but it stops the ignition key from turning so I left it disconnected. Anyone can shed light on the purpose of this? I found a photo on the net and circled what I'm talking about to avoid confusion.

Autos have a ignition lock thing attached to the shifter.

Yes automatic. How come when I connected it, it stopped the key from turning?

not recognising "P" or "N" when selected - hence why it has likely been disconnected.

Been a while since I had an auto Nissan but I think the brake also needs to be applied.

P, N and footbrake all have input before the key will turn, so there's a few items to check.
