Has anyone ever considered getting this done? It occur's to me that a turbo option somewhere between the -9/-5 range would make ALOT of people happy. And seems like it would be a perfect match for a 2.6.

I know some people will say its a waste of time and just choose from an existing turbo. But i have a set of GT-SS's where 1 needs a to be rebuilt, and currently have -5's on my car, I enjoy the -5's... but they do lack transient response and are a bit slower to get fired up. So if/when i decide to forge my engine its a perfect oppertunity to swap them out..

My thought would be turbos that could do 350kw on 98 (with all required supporting mods). On a 9:1 compression bottom end it would be a wicked street set-up. Or even with a 2.8 bottom capable of 360kw+ with full boost from say... 3200?... ballistic?

thoughts?

Current setup with -9s 350kw 98 stock compression (maybe lower) built engine etc

Setup in the build currently as did a ring in my engine (injector wiring chaffed)

2.6 9:1 compression nothing lower flex fuel setup and -9s

hopefully will be all done in 3-4months

Will post results when I have them should be fun hahaha

Hawkins turbos are more resembling of a -5 now than a -7. Hard to directly compare to your average joe with of-shelf items :)

I know someone with something very similar in the pipeline currently

You knew someone that had it too, long ago now though lol - Me :)

I spoke to GCG yesterday asking about highflowing my -7's, he said that just results in a -5. Is that right? My understanding of watching the motivedvd vids is that the inlet size is smaller than a -5 but the comp cover is machines enough to fit the larger wheel?

That raises an interesting question... if the machining was done just to fit the -5 compressor wheel, with stock inlet diameter, would that give higher too end without -5 lag (obviously not -5 power, let's say a midpoint) OR would it be -5 lag with no real benefit because of the heavier larger moving parts with a restriction.

I would think it would be the latter?

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
