Famous Tuning Shops Near Tokyo, Osaka, Tsukuba Or Ebisu

Recommended Posts

are there any near by these areas or accessible within 30 mins outside centre?

I will have a car to drive to Ebisu but the other places will just be by public transport, walking or bicycle.

any suggestions/recommendations of tuning houses and places to visit?

current list is Tsukuba & ebisu circuits, toyota museum, super auto bacs & up garages, plus a few more i cant think off th top of my head.

Will there be any car shows/events between mid October to early November?

Do they still hold car meets at that famous place off the wangan in the large parking lots? if so where is this place.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, I just got back from japan today so I can offer some advice with a few of those places. I wanted to experience more of the car scene but ran out of time. I would highly recommend the nismo factory in yokohama. opening hours are wed-sunday 10am-5pm free entry. parts are very pricey though but still an amazing experience and just under an hour by train from Tokyo train station. I checked out one upgarage in Tokyo but it wasn't that great. It was the one in minamitanaka, nerima, tokyo. it had 2 levels...the first with lots of good quality super cheap rims and the second floor with mainly head units, exhaust systems and coilovers, but not a lot of options for skylines. It might be worth checking out some other up garages though. I also went to an Autobacs in Osaka. It was the deiribashiten store and only a very short trip from Osaka train station. Not worth going to in my opinion, they only had car cleaning products and focused on interior parts and a decent selection of rims. The super Autobacs would be worth checking out though. Hope this helps you

There is a good up garage near Tomei, close to the Tomei express way in yokohama that had a lot of skyline and gtr parts when I was there in may 2014. Im heading back to Japan in may this year, so I will update soon. They had quite a few R33 and R34 gtr for sale at the yard across the road.

if you wanna ogle parts, your super Autobacs type stores are a time waste, as mentioned they only really do accessories these days; cleaners, rims, car audio etc.

For parts your up garages and Autobacs secohan (second hand) will at least have actual performance parts in them, even if they are used. People buy through the net or their tuner these days. In fact last trip I got a Blitz intercooler sent to my hotel COD and took it back on the plane with me. Saved about half the aus price, but took planning

Sounds good. If you were to buy new, just keep in mind the resellers you buy from will probably not actually stock them, rather they will order from the manufacturer, then ship to you. So my intercooler I called and ordered on day one, but it only just made it to the hotel in time before I came back home (8 day trip?) so I almost lost out. Upgarage etc web pages are great in that they will ship fairly fast to you from whatever shop in japan has that item, but if you haven't been in person before, go out to the nearest one anyway, its grat to just wonder round them.

Dori34,the upgarage in Machida,Yokohama isn't worth the trip out. Its full of just wheels and alot of junk now. So were the ones in Hiroshima, central Osaka.

Even using their website croooober.com,didn't show alot of gtr parts.

The Nismo headquarters in Yokohama was awesome though!! They have the R35 gt3 car that won the Bathurst 12 hour on display, still had racegas smells in the cabin!

Just got back from Japan and did a trip to the Machida Up Garage GT store and it wasn't really worth the visit.

Nismo headquarters is definitely a must visit! Current line up Datsun Sunny, Xanavi R34, R35 and IDX.

No didn't get a chance to check it out! :( sounds good though! Will have to chuck it on the bucket list for next time!

I was lucky to check out omori! Went on a Tuesday not realising they recently changed their shop opening times...only managed to sneak in a visit just before I flew home the next day!!

Yes!

D1 event is on when i;m there in the Tokyo Bay area, so definitely going to that.

Has anyone done the R35 GTR drive hire in Japan? pricing seems reasonable for 24hr car hire with 400km limit, highly considering it :)

    • sold listed as a Tomei LSD 1.5 Way For 1998+ Nissan Skyline ER34 25GT RB25DE w/Open R200 https://www.ebay.com/itm/174006114594?campid=5338967980&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&toolid=10050&customid=&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&loc_physical_ms=108689&loc_interest_ms=&campid=5338967980&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&toolid=10050&customid=71883f2ccc571356e0a757bc7adfdde2&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&loc_physical_ms=108689&loc_interest_ms= it went in like butter all gears, alignment, back lash etc, rotation and clearances correct, and if rolling all rotates smooth and free when coasting down road , clutch in or out over 10 mph smooth... its the binding, clunking and jerking from a stop that is most concerning, also seems like its going to tear the tires off in 10 miles of normal road driving.
    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
