Big 2 days of inspecting cams on dump trucks as they have 20,000 hours and starting to break down often

Big'uns? Caterpillars? Ive just clocked up 42 years and starting to break down often:-(

Yep she's a big girl, have some pics of a dual 10" exhaust and new charge air tubes I made for westrac out at there dyno room. But can't upload them. What were the results? Worn lobes?

Quoted a job for westrac today. Fix all there charge air intercooler box with all new 8" to 7" breeches pieces to 7" tubing off the turbo's for c175-20 engines. Even with massive swages and tripple clamping they are popping the hoses under 32psi boost. We've chased it down to the weekest link which is where the 8" reduces to a 7" breeches piece after the intercooler and into the intake manifolds. Have done 2 x fixes already. Hope we pick up the job. It's a big job that I've honestly quoted. Will be all new tube work and a full new reconfiguration. They are expanding size from the turbo's to the intercooler, but reducing too much on the way back to the manifolds. So far as I'm concerned. I've suggested 3 x fixes but in reality it needs all new tubing. I love working with the guys at westrac, they know there stuff. Which makes my job easier.

Can even be related back to the skyline. Turbo outlet is 2" I/d and 2 1/2" od. 2 1/2" tubing to 3" intercooler so the air has a pressure drop then expands through the intercooler and fills with mass for air cooling then compresses back to 2 1/2" into the throttle body. With a 3" intake to match the size of the intercooler. You've just got to love the principals and practices of turbo charging. It's the reason our Nissan's are animals. :-)

    • When you pulled it off, there is no signs of blown head gasket? Is it possible you have some other issues going on? Possible cracked blocked? Or do you think it's straight up lifting the head? Did you check what the head was torqued to before pulling it down (To see if possibly they're stretching, or starting to break threads out etc)?
    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
