It's all about the car needing to meet certain criteria to be considered a "specialist and enthusiast vehicle" and in this case it did not meet the minimum power to weight ratio of 105kw/ton to be accepted.

It was too slow.

And to be honest I'm not sure of the allure, 34GTT is cheap enough these days surely; the import cost is more than the auction cost.

Oh, okay. I wasn't really thinking of importing an HR34, I was just interested why it wouldn't be allowed to be imported.

Although the HR34 (2000cc non-turbo) can't be imported, you can still import the ER34 which comes in a 2500cc non-turbo version very cheaply .. possibly as cheap as $7,000 landed and complied for a sedan or $9,000 landed and complied for a coupe, and this is for decent cars with around 100,000km genuine and no accident history.

Yeah, I was looking at the 25GT-T sedan, particularly these: https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan%20car/nissan/skyline/16516335/ https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan%20car/nissan/skyline/16930297/

Please do not pay much attention to TradeCarView as there are a LOT of scams there and many of the cars either don't exist or are seriously misrepresented.

If this car was real and genuine which there are reasons to doubt already, it would end up with a landed and complied cost around $16,000 in Australia.

This one is a much better price for this sort of car and would end up costing around $7,700 landed and complied in Australia. You would still need to check the car for accident history and make sure it's genuine.

I would strongly suggest auctions as a better place to look, we can get bargains for you there and have every car checked out in person before bidding so there is no guess work.

Thank you for the information. Can you please point me to the websites for the auctions?

Actually I can help you find suitable cars, have them inspected and bid on the good ones. Then once we have a car I will arrange import, compliance and everything else for you.

I have been importing cars to Australia for more than 15 years and have been a Skyline owner and active SAU member for just as long.

Please PM me here or through Facebook if you want to see what cars are available. I am happy to help you from start to finish.

Thanks. I'll PM you when I'm ready to buy :)

I had no idea about this Craig... thank you very much!

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
