No problems running "moderate" upgraded terbs with the std ecu. You will start to approach the limit of the std injectors and prolly also be near the limit of the afms.

Check the a/f ratios on a dyno, however, to ensure all is OK with fuel supply however.

gtrken on these forums has prolly done this a squillion times before and could offer more advice.

fyi,

a friend of mine ran the N1s on his RB26 with the standard and everything was fine, although he only ran 12psi, and it went quite hard.

i believe he is selling these turbos atm, so if you're interested PM me and i'll pass his details onto you.

lazza ,

dont bother with the stock ecu , they will run fine but very rich , got them in my gtr .

get a pfc get it tuned and you will have an 11 second car just with turbs , pfc and a good exhaust . thats all i've got and i ran 11.7 @120mph at wsid . when i had the stock ecu i had nowhere near the power that i have now and i was getting 300 - 350 km per tank , after pfc and a tune i'm getting 450 -500 k per tank and i can loose traction on a dry road in second gear when it comes on boost on the stock 17 X9 's with 245x45 tyres

Does it matter?

Oh yes, the R32 ECU can be tuned in real time on the dyno fairly easily. You get pretty goods results from a mild R32 GTR by tuning the standard ECU. This is not so easy with the R33 ECU, if fact I reckon it is so time consuming (costly) that it is cheaper to buy a PFC. :)

Or just use the R32 ECU in the R33 - my old Mines ECU did the rounds of Perth including an R33.

The ECU is acutally a lesser known jap brand and i cant find any info on it at all.

Its a Power Selection ECU???

I assume that is is not tunable so I will probably look at a PFC, but considering I am about to fork out for turbs I may pospone the PFC until the cash flow improves! Hence my question regarding whether the N1s will be ok with the ECU thats in the car at the moment.

The car is an R33 GTS-T with an RB26DETT transplant, Im not sure whether it is an R32 or an R33 engine??

Thanks for the responses guys.

Lawrence

You are probably right - my old Mines ECU had a big dob of epoxy resin over the eeprom chip. Other brands probably follow suit.

As Steve-SST says above, I am selling my GTR PFC/HC/Boost Kit at a very cheap price in order to help pay for my rebuild. PM me if you are interested.

    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
