i have a vl commodore and i no that this aint a commodore site but i really need some help rite now i am currently building an rb30 (non turbo) and will be fitting an rb25 head to it my questions are 1, does any 1 no about wiring them up into the rb30 loom & can you get programable stock computers for it i have a mate with an r33 and he has somthing like this not 100% sure 2, do you think that a custom made plenum would be the go as im very interested in fitting one to my engine and do you no any 1 in adelaide who could weld 1 up 4 me. and lastly adjustable cam gears does any 1 no how much they are and where could i get them from any info on this would be great cheers blokes :(

i,ve done that conversion , all except the electrics which i had done by an auto sparky here in brisbane .

the standard rb25de puters aren,t reprogramable , so you have to use the stock rb25de puter or go aftermarket puter , at a guess $1200 plus

the existing plenum and runners are plenty big enough , but i put on an xf falcon throttle body bored out to 68 mm .

if your engine is from an r33 hook up the variable cam timing ( it operates on the inlet cam only .

i spose you could put an ajustable cam gear on the exhaust cam , cost about $250

also i,ve got a set of rb25de turbo injectors to put in ( they flow 370cc as against 270 for rb25de ones )

hope this is of some help

by the way i got all this in a very ordinary stock looking 1987 red skyline 5 spd station wagon

I'm doin the RB30DET conversion into a VL and also and face the same dillema. I see a couple of options. Use the RB25 engine loom with a Wolf plugin (They make one for the RB25) and interface maybe 5-10 wires with the VL body loom. e.g. dash water temp, oil pressure, starter solenoid, alternator, etc. Or, if the wolf dosn't have the features you want, still use the RB25 loom cos it has all the plugs already on it, and cut it near the computer and join a shitload of wires to suit whatever ECU you decide to use.

i used the stock RB25DE engine harness and puter . the sparky then had to mate up the harness under the dash to it . it,s the cheapest solution until i can get ( afford ) an aftermarket puter . have fitted a malpassi fuel pressure regulator

in and set it at 40 psi . seems to be getting enough fuel , but still an aftermarket puter would be ideal , to fine tune it .

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
