i think that no matter what alarm(i said alarm) you have if a theif who knows what he is doing wants to steal your car, he will..

i was reading in either HPI, or speed magazine, that there i a mob somehwere that offers an alarm with imobilizer, that if stolen via car jacking or what have you, you can call a number and it will automatically imobilize the car, and act as if quote ' it ran out of petrol' so theives will just leave it.. hopefully...

I was talking to brant the other day and they said they are introducing there gsm tracking soon as a addon feature which sends you sms and rings you if somthing goes wrong.

good thing i found about the brant is its like a lego set they can keep adding things onto it with out changing the whole alarm

I have a Mongoose 750S alarm/immob. Couldn't be happier. The transponder works reliably and from great distance (unlike my friend's Brant one), and I haven't had any false alarms.

It's also Australian Standards Approved (required for most insurance companies), which I don't think the Boomerang is.

You all seem to be forgetting the most important aspect of a car alarm....the quality of the install. I can take a budget $200 alarm and make it more secure than a $1000 alarm - it all depends on how much effort the installer takes and how intelligent they are. The shop fronts are there to make money and that means speed and efficiency are often a priority, if not of the installer then of the manager. As mentioned earlier in the thread if an alarm can be built then the right person can unbuild it given time. Despite this i wouldn't go anywhere without one and if someone tows my car at least I know i did everything i could to deter them.

I have seen some bad installs in my experience and then some really bad installs! If you know and trust an installer personally then without a doubt go with them. Multiple cuts and black wires often buy you time but not much. 50% of the time unless you pay extra they won't go to the extra effort of connecting multiple cuts anyway (do you go out of your way for strangers?)

If you spend more money for something more specialised then you can only hope that the company will respect your needs and treat the install with care.

      I also used Knox driveshafts when I the slip yoke T56 to the 3bolted TR6060 type. I believe I was one of his first jobs as it literally changed hands when I was there, started by the old owner and finished by the new. Everyone seemed pretty great about it. So wasn't shy/seemed pretty knowledgeable when dealing with weird custom people like me.

      We used Knox Drive shafts years ago when we were doing gravel rally, good guy but I heard it had changed hands? He's got a lot of stuff and is miles cheaper than GJ and so on. He used to have a lathe setup with a MIG torch on the tool holder so he could get the uni welds just right, quite a clever guy. I just got a driveshaft done for my sequential installation and that was through Balancing Services Australia in Preston, they did the Gibson cars in the old days. New genuine CV's, billet yoke, new centre bearing and chome moly shaft was $2k.

      Thanks for sharing that mate, I've got a couple of spares on the shelf but all the unis are tight....will give old mate a shout. BTW are you sure it wasn't just a $400 paint job? Any detail of what they replaced (cut/reweld?)

      Yeah I saw that about the US Q50 recently, apparently it was shown to Inifiniti dealers (probably to help with their depression about the cars they can sell). Seemed like a really obvious step to me, the platforms are very similar in many ways. Even if there aren't many people who actually put the money up it should really help with image/reputation. What hasn't been clear anywhere if that is a V38 model of if they are just going to add the trans as an option in a new model year. What they did with the Z from 370z to "Z" is just weird so I'd be surprised if they released this as a V38. Great news for me to have an option; it is far from confirmed that I can get any decent track sessions through the auto so having a manual I can swap to is great.
