Im in the same situation..

Im probably going to just get my standard turbo hiflowed, its cheaper and easy to take off/install yourself

If i were to buy a new turbo, i wouldnt bother 25xx ide probably go all the way and get a 2835, 550cc injectors etc and bask in the 260-300rwkw :uh-huh:

Do a search for the GCG Hiflow threads. Sydneykid has spend many hours replying in these particular threads as he has a GCG Hiflow setup on an R34 GTT pushing around 250-260rwkw (with a full listing of mods too).

My opinion is that replacing a turbo on an R33 GTS-t that only netts you 210-220rwkw is a complete waste of time and money. If you were to upgrade all the support systems (exhaust, fmic, fuel pump, ex cam gear, ebc, ecu, etc) then you would already be pushing very close to 190-200rwkw so how is 200rwkw -> 210-220rwkw worth $2k for an aftermarket turbo?

Different people want/expect different things. To me a turbo upgrade is a 40-60rwkw not 10-20rwkw.

why dont you get the GT-RS turbo, HKS have now released it in T3 flange to suite RB20/25 as a bolt on application.

its rateed at 400ps the same rating as a 2835 but responds more like a 2535.

best of both worlds there, it would be super responsive on an RB25 yet flow some serious top end...

you should make at lease 250rwkw with a 2530, i would imagine some good figures would be seen with the GT-RS

LOL...bbenny is keen to see some GT-Rs results :D

The GT-RS is a good idea, could be the next good thing as far as bolt on low mount turbos go. But havent seen many results to date, just read a few articels that see them making 220-230 rwks on SR20s and 300rwkws in twin form on a GTR so havent really made up my mind that they offer 2540 power yet.

I dont think you will ever see 250rwkws out of a 2530 on an RB25 as the boost always seems to fall off at high rpm...may explain the 2530 kit i saw with an external gate?!?!?!?!

Remember this is a std engine.. You are limited by the amount of boost you can run.

I wouldn't bother with the std item high flowed for the price you pay for a s/h GT2530.

The response is much better with the 2530.

It really depends if 220-230rwkw is all you are after in the long term.

OR.. You could spend 3k on a turbo like Freebaggin's

Its made ~280rwkw to date with a std engine and reasonable boost.

  • 1 month later...

Thats cos everyone wants more powah :D

The HKS range especially the GT-RS range is really expensive, you wont get it on your engine brand new for less than $3K

or twice the price of a highflow from GCG/ATS

the difference in response between a GT-RS/2530/2540 and the standard turbo highflowed is very minimal, and definately not worth an extra $1500

    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
