Hi Guys,

I am looking at buying an R32 with an RB25DET. I would like to take the engine out and swap it with an RB25DET for obvious reasons.

I have been told that the brakes are the same on the 1993 R32 RB25DE as the R32 RB20DET, and that only the engine, gearbox will need to be changed.

Can anybody please offer me some information, or advice ASAP as I am looking to buy tomorrow or the next.

Thanks

ok let me get this right, I am sure its typo, so you want to buy a R32 with RB25DET then you want to take RB25DET out and replace with RB25DET... for obvious reasons... reason would be different engine but same spec?

probably need to change Breaks..... suspension if you have the money, get some new Intercoolers, new engine management ECU...etc.

good luck

Sorry - it was a typo.

It currently has a non turbo 2.5L engine and I would like to replace it with an RB25DET.

The car is a 1993 model and the owner claims that this model has the same brakes as the R32 with a RB20DET which means brakes would not need to be changed.

Thats wrong, brakes are N/A spec, single pot calipers, smaller rotors and a 4 stud hub. So unless the car has been upgraded then the brakes are no different to other N/A skylines. The diff is also different, turbo's came with LSD. Un sure to suspension specs but i am going to asume that the spring etc aren't the same as a turbo spec vehicle. Could be wrong, the weight difference in the models would be fairly similar (1380kg for mine, which is the GTS25) Apparently the intake manifold on the R32 Rb25de is the same as the Rb20det...

Basicly, look at the caliper, the 4pot models are larger and have nissan written on them.

Hope this helped.....

geordie is incorrect.. some non turbos also come with LSD.. and also the same brakes as the turbo. Factory options can mix and match to give anything.

The brakes are probably the same as the rb20det in the latter models on the rb25de's. So you are correct mr r32 in that you'll just have to change the engine.. and the gearbox would probably be recommended but non mandatory to start(the rb20det gearbox will fit behind an rb25det)

predator, you are wrong - my '92 R32 GTS-t, and nearly every other one I've ever seen have had 4 piston brake calipers as standard, not 2....

The caliper I am referring to has the silver NISSAN logo on the front, Sumitomo stamped onto the body, and are the same as used on the Z32 300ZX and the S14 200SX.

I just got my RB25DET (series 2) and I was hoping you could help me with some questions.

My Skyline is non turbo so it will be a big step with the RB25.

Now then, my first question is about the gearbox mounts, I hear they aren't the same and I will also have problems with the speedo meter. What do you know about this? Can I use the Xmember of the R33 ??

The second is about the harness, everyone that has ever swapped an engine told me that the harness is the most difficult part of the swap. Do you have the diagram of the R32 and the R33 (still can't find it for the R32) and some pointers on how this is done??

Hope to get a reply from you soon

Yes.. speedo is out of wack..

Its one of the gears in the Gauge cluster.. they used to make cogs to change it to the correct speed.. but these days they are very hard to find..

Your speedo will read over.

There are a few R33 gearbox into R32 threads floating around.. have a look. Off the top of my head it is ia straight fit.

In terms of harness.. there isnt really a hard part.. just swap them over.. as you need to run a 33 ECU anyways..

Best advice I can give you.. look for an R32 and R33 workshop manual for the wiring diagrams..

I have seen a fair few Rb25 into R32 threads in the DIY section of this forum..
