decided it would be easier for me just to use the ceffy as a track/event car. As such with the current mods etc i wont need to comply it nor get a normal RWC, instead im going to register it as a Rally Vehicle :rant:

just got off the phone with Russ or whatever his name is and wen over the details. When i get my CAMS L2S licence via our club all i need is to provide a copy of it... the application form and a scrutineers report saying that the vehicle has no major problems and is safe etc and i can gets me a rally permit!

costs a little more than a normal rego... but the costs of getting a normal rego far out weigh one of these. This also means i dont have to pay for towing the car all round the place even at jack from citywides more than awesome rates! (go the plug!) :)

only downside is it can only be used on the road for transport.... but pfffffft who cares! i can still use it on our OFFICIAL CLUB meets etc as they are approved by cams ;)

hmmmm thats not what vic roads said... i told them about my car etc and they said thats fine as long as it passes scrutineering then thats fine... they were more worried about the licence which apparently any of the CAMS licences cover.

Definitely says National Rally License or higher.

I only say all this cause we were looking into it for a modified R32 GTR and in the end I dont think it could be done.

You can drive the car on a L2S - but you need at least an R3 (National Rally Licence) to register it.

And thats $$$ per year!

Even if you import it as a 15yr old vehicle, you still need the correct licence and log book from cams to get the thing registered. If your car was a '92 model you would have had to get the rego/CAMS thing sorted prior to the car beign shipped

according to the vic roads "specialist" (took 3 people til i got someone who knew what i was on about... they all thought i wanted to do WRC or something stupid) you only need a licence from CAMS.

Im actually going to go down there and speak to someone in person just incase.

btw i didnt say it had anything to do with my car being 15yo... what i am saying is that i dont have to get it completely complied ie. child restraints etc. "as long as its safe"

Inark - When you find out the exact details and weather this can be done can you send me a PM, cause my bro is looking to get some thing similar for his drift car Silvia, because he doesnt wanna pay $1500 for compliance when the car is only used once a month for drift events.

Cool, it looks like you have been doing your homework. Just be careful what advise you are given...my money is still on you need a higher licence then the L2S (my thoughts are that a "High Level competition licence" will require a medical, and more then likely observed licence test, if so do a rally/dirt one as they are cheaper and easier then the tarmac/circuit tests)

The only reason i mentioned the 15yr thing is thats how you got the car imported into the country. If you had of tried to use rally registration to get import approval for the car you will have found that you need a C3 etc licence...but who knows you may have found a loophole...use the 15yr law to get the car here, then use a lesser club licence to get the car registered ;)

I hope im wrong, it sounds like i may be :P

you guys have been in the game and more involved in it than me so i value ur input...

dont worry i wont be counting on this to be the only way to get my car in use... i was just looking into it as it seems to be a more viable idea seeing as i only want to use this for events and so on.

fingers crossed the guy i spoke to wasnt blowing smoke out his arse... but it does seem a little too good to be true.

thats a good one steve... will check that out too and confirm but those ones that cant be registered after is because they were not eligible for import into the country under normal circumstances whereas mine was.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
