The law's harsh but its not the end of the world. I mean, look at speeding for instance - there's a huge focus on that, and yet so many people still speed. In the same respect, the law will only really affect the people who get caught - and you'll only get caught if you're not careful. I speed frequently (and i mean frequently) and still havent yet been caught, most probably since I'm constantly aware of my surroundings.

I think you'll find that it will be the P platers in commodores that thrash their poor car in plain view of everyone that get hit the hardest by this one.

The answer is simple - don't drive to impress others and you wont draw attention to yourself.

I may be wrong, but hey. Either way I'm still convinced it's all about revenue.

(and it still sucks)

I'm pretty much on your mark cell.

I've only been pulled over once in 2.5years for using the standard fog lights with my head lights. The first weekend after buying the car :D

I was told I am not allowed to use them if I am using my main headlights.

They went a long time ago to make way for the FMIC.

Turned them off and all was good.

I think also being pulled over has a lot to do with the overall look of the car.

Lowered, mags etc.

My other half was talking to a cop that said generally they will check out an import if they have a big exhaust muffler out the back, mags and lowered.

The big exhaust tip was stressed is what they look for.

I was pulled over not long ago by a cop on a bike for failing to stop at a stop sign. I rolled through it, and as soon as I did that the lights came on

I was polite, said sorry, and he said just don't do it again or there is a pretty big fine - fair enough I reckon :D

My car is quite loud, quite low (tyres just under teh guards) and he was following me for a fair while - it was dark and I thought it was just a normal sports bike, he never said anything about the car at all

My boost controller at the time was mounted on my steering coloumn, in full view, not a word said.

I think alot comes down to how you treat them - if you get pulled over and get agro, well then they are sure to be a prick back

I was polite, and he saw that I didn't mean to do it, and let me off with a warning

I think as long as you don't go dropping big skids down rundle street, or dragging people on anzac highway, i can't see the new law effecting many of us

P platers look out, as most people think all P platers are hoons!

Chris

buy an S15 :D

still perform as good & head turning as skyline, but the cop won't even look at u.

btw I had import for 2.5 years b4 the s15, never been pull over once.

sure there are some fxxker, but most cop are not that bad

still guys lets think seriously, this gives anyone the right to dob anyone in without prrof, with this law you are GUILTY until proven innocent which will be so hard to do once your car is sold or gone. Its total bullshit but i think its mainly because of the bogons with p plates and shitty vn or vp commodores that think there mums hand me down can do 0-100 in 5 seconds flat.

So naturally any bikies on their harleys will get done for noise and lose their bikes right... coz we all know how often bikies get pulled over.... pff...

This "law" is a joke. If someone has a lawyer that even slightly knows what they're doing, surely no court can enforce this flakey set of rules. No one can be guilty without evidence or a witness.

If they are serious about these hoon laws, make huge fines and/or strict loss of license etc, fair enough, but seriously, how can they justify taking something that you own? I don't recall having signed anything that says the police can take MY car that I OWN let alone SELL IT!

Next they'll be selling people's homes for obstructing someones views, or playing music too loud. I'd love to know what dumb arse comes up with ideas like this.

1) We need a letter template written by someone with skills in that area so we can all print it off, sign it and send it to our local MP's. Anyone have any legal contacts who could help add some legal credibility to it?

2) We should start an email campaign, sending it to everyone you know and everyone they know and so on.

mate, you were probably lucky - his son/daughter may have an import, which only resulted in a warning for you. Many motorists in SA get pulled over and canaried for no apparent reason.

yeah, I was lucky, and know of others who have been defected for almost nothing

Just my example of how inconsistant the whole system is, and I can only see it getting worse from here with this new law

Chris

adelaide makes up the most bs laws -,- we should go protest! march from victoria square down to the government building thing on north tce and stick banners around there bout how bs the law is! lol

First they dont want P platers driving at night, now this...

I wonder how many high speed chases will result from this. There is no way I will give up my car without a fight - at least if I write it off I will get insurance!

My main problem isnt that all cops are arseholes, as I dont believe they are, BUT there are some total fark head cops out there (right cheeky?) who can abuse the law if they wish.

There are ample laws in place already that can be used for someone who decides to do a bit of dorifto up King William, dangerous driving, creating excessive noise, driving with undue care etc - really, 1 burnout and you can loose your liscence and then send your car to regency for good measure.

Why do all these self serving politicians have to try and re-invent the wheel, soon, we wont be able to fart in public without getting our arse sewn up (on the spot, no anesthesia:)) Its just getting out of hand. Most of these pollies must have been hiding in doors when they were growing up, forget what it is like to be young. Perhaps we should all sell our cars and just do drugs instead?

Or better still, everyone buy an old $200 shit box, do a bunout in the city, then run away before the cops grab you (make sure the car is unregistered) - they will have to impound the car, very soon there would be no room for any decent cars:D fark em all, is it any wonder no body likes politicians when all they do is spend time and effort trying to screw people?

this new law just isnt necessary, the wankers

/rant

have to agree with most of you the new law is sh*tto , as u said new laws to stop p platers will result in a midnight chases as alot of people will do alot to stop the fact that they don't want there car taken away, pollies need to think about what they doin before they act

and NSW, and WA.. although I think NSW was the first.. All the worst shit in this country originates from NSW :)

Steve has a good point.. bugger me if I'd be stopping and gently pulling over if you thought your car was going to be compounded and sold from underneath you. Its just going to result in worse incidents in some cases.

They generally need video evidence though to be able to take the car off you, I think that is what happens up here anyhow.

    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
