thanks for the inputs linda!!

anyway... back on topic!

i dont really want this car to be on the road, and dont really wanna outlay any money for the shell, plus its a good start to making different cars seeing we'll be doing all the work ourselves!

pentae, true it will be heaps of work, but i'll still be selling the engine and g/box, and all the interior etc.. so basically the only thing left would be what would go off to the scrap heap.. can get the materials for the tunnel and tube frame for free....... so why not do this definately something different :D

Flipmo, yeah i realise the EW setup for current engine but the firewall is actually bent already.. will be cutting it out and welding in a new tunnel so i'll be able to mount the engine back behind the front strut to get a better weight distribution...

Oops, i forgot you were putting in teh tube front end :D

i think the evo n normal lancers have a different track (is it called track?)...distance between wheels...

get a fwd sr20 and rear mount the engine so it makes it rwd :D

hmm true i didn't think of that..

but rear mount would have it's own problems, couldn't imagine how you'd hook up the linkages from the gear selector to the box! could look into something like a 3sgte or something

hey john, yeah like i said, this wont cost me much at all.. just have to get an engine!

i actually have got 2 CA18DET blocks at a mates so i could rebuild those and use that .. outlay cash on a g/box and i can get diffs for like almost nothing

and all the work i can do myself which costs nothing! and i am basically stripping the whole thing anyway .. only things staying is shell and steering rack and front suspension wouldn't get much for those things anyway :D

I take it you are in for the long haul with this project lol.

First up, you wont be able to race it in any category, even sport sedans, so it will be a club car right? hillclimbs, supersprints etc?

The trick will be getting the rear suspension in, I would assume that everything back there is totally different as far as hubs, diffs, struts, mounting points etc etc etc.

And just go one of those ca18s, you can get sufficient power out of them but they are heaps cheaper than SR20s :D

dude you cant make it NA. Make sure its turboed

and i was reading Autosalon magazine, had an article about a 2dr lancer that has evo drivetrain fitted, and they had to cut the rear floorpan out and weld in evo stuff.

hey, thats what i was not hoping for :) oh well doesn't really matter about cutting it out and welding the new stuff in as it doesn't have to get engineered or anything!

is that the new Autosalon magazine? might get it and read up on what they did!

yeah i realised that i wouldn't be able to race it in a CAMS series, but forgot about supersprints etc ... this is sounding like a better idea by the day :)

yeah whole rear subframe will have to change, just has the independant rear bolted direct to the chasis, so the end will be cut out and a new 7.5" diff welded in!

yeah should rebuild the CA's cause we got all the parts! plus the car is under1000Kg's so it should go well just as a stocker!

or go to some Msian car forums and ask around...

lots of FWD Protons and Mitsus converted to 4WD :)

please explain where!! Msian?

dont want 4wd too much money involved with engine transmission and 2 diffs .

Bit of a long shot to post here but here goes.

I've got a 99 lancer gl sitting in my back yard, smashed at the front with slight damage to the firewall.  Basically this cant be fixed cheaply and has been abandoned by my insurance company (longer story) so i wanna do something with it!

plans: since the front right arm is bent

tube frame front end with an CA18 or SR20 turbo in it, with conversion to RWD!!

just wondering if anyone knows if the chassis of the FWD lancer i the same as an EVO lancer????

just to make things easier and not have to build a new tunnel for it, i have notice that the fuel tank is under the rear seat so this will have to be removed, just hoping that with that removed i can run a tailshaft through!  just running a fuel cell in the boot.

if any one has seen lancers with similar mods or RWD conversion if they could post links/pics that would be great.  this is a weekend job just for a fun track/drift car!

any and all suggestions welcome!

cheers :)

Sell stupid lancer crap poo and do skyline faster. :)

    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist
    • There are several aftermarket options available, from not-too-painful moneyhttps://justjap.com/collections/driveshafts-bearings/products/d-max-reinforced-replacement-rear-driveshaft-set-fits-nissan-s13-s14-s15-r32-r33-r34-c35 and  https://justjap.com/products/crank-motorsport-billet-rear-axles-fits-nissan-skyline-r33-gts-t-r34-gt-t?srsltid=AfmBOorQk4xkGUa98kO7v2ePLUiNt-HRrM2AwWNw9mbSIVE1ujBVwY__, all the way up to The Driveshaft Shop https://driveshaftshop.com/skyline-cv-axles/
    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
    • Yeeeppp, been following a lot of the testing on the latest Xona stuff and there are some mental results.  He also went over 1000hp @ 4 hubs on his Mainline with a XRE6364S (63mm) which was also well into the 20psi range before 4000rpm on a 2.5. Crazy stuff. Fwiw the XRE5964S is basically the modern equivalent of their old HTA3582 - would drive nicely enough on an RB25 or 26, but proven capable of a huge amount of power if you want to spicy with rpm tho even at sane boost levels will make stout numbers
