Just the other day i changed my standard gtst seats to GTR seats... I just got a hold of GTR door panels which have the matching material to the GTR seats. Does anyone know how i can get this material off and swap it with the material on the door of my gtst? I think it is stuck on and dont want to tear it off in case it gets wrecked.

Has anyone done this or know any places that specialise in this?

Thanks in advance...

here is a picture of the material i am on about and you can see the difference in the material...

its very hard to pull it off in one piece as it has sponge backing , never tried to pull it off in a skyline but i have done it in other cars , its a nightmare .

even if you get it off in one piece you have to reglue it on with contact glue and its very hard to get it on right if you make a mistake you cant take it off as soon as you touch it it sticks on hard .

take it to a motor trimer , i did this myself on a wrx sti , changed 2 door trims but i spend on e day doing it , if you get it off in one piece with all the sponge still on it , it will look good but its very hard believe me you will swear .

Hard? I found it extremely easily.. you just do it gradually, start with a screwdriver in there. and just slowly peel. You can't tear anything as the felt is quite strong. Comes off in one piece - I did it on a 'spare' r33 trim - got it off and its all rolled up and its perfet. As for refitting new trim.. I'll have to leave part for my next car :P. Can't be that hard. You can buy some new thin sponge padding and cut to shape - then apply the new trim over the top.

Contact glue generally allows some freedom to move things around till it goes tacky - I carpetted my old sub quite easily.

predator ,

did you get it off with the sponge still on it ? thats the hardest thing i have found , you can peel the material off easy if you dont care about the sponge but then when you put it back on it will be uneven .

as for the contact glue you should put it on both surfaces let it get dry by=ut a little tacky then put the 2 surfaces together .

if you just put on one side and put together while still wet you can still move it but the glue comes throught the material and you can see it .

when i did it i spend a few hours taking it off and i took all the sponge off in one piece . i used contact glue same as they used , put a light coat on each surface ( door trim and sponge ) let it dry and then put it together , a long and painfull operation but you couldn't tell it was taken off .

Well the sponge on it (s1 gts-t) was paper thin, but seemed to stick pretty much to the door card itself rather than the material. Putting it back, I would be getting some new foam, and cut it to the same shape, and wrap the material over it - that nice inset around the outside helps.. but I didn't get that far. Was just curious how it all was put together.

I'm going to give retrimming parts of my next car a try when it gets here though.

thats the trick to get the material off with the sponge still on it , if you dont then you have to get it all off the material and the plastic off the door trim then buy new sponge the same thickness tick the sponge to the material then stick the lot to the door trim .

good luck doing the job so you cant tell .

when i did it i made sure i pulled the material with the sponge on then glued it back on the end job you couldn't tell the difference .

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG is has not responded to my emails so far after purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
