hey guys, ewan ed etc....

im finally getting broadband *hushed awe* im getting optusnet. basically my dad is with optus with everything else so we get free installation.

however he's not forking out the extra $30 per month for unlimited downloads. now im lead to beleive that this will be sh*t because i'll reach my d/l limit in about a day? :spew:

so whats the story, how bad will it be? cause theres pretty much no way he's going to pay for unlimited.

Andrew.

hahaha

heres a tip... why dont you fork out the extra $30 and PRESTO!!!! unlimited downloads... here we come!

but on a serious note... depends on how much you use the net ... but i would just pay that 30 bucks then you have no worries... wats your limit now??

200mb? if it is then it will go in a day or so... for me anyway.... but if you dont d/l too much you can always check your usage metre... and you should be able to upgrade your plan anytime aswell...

Veilside R33 i am in the exact same problem, 200mb per month is not fun. I could spend the extra $30 for unlimited downloads but i prefer to save up for something better in the future.

Let your dad use the internet during the 28.8kbps cap, tell him about the cheap international calls he could make with VOIP, the webcam convos he could do with friends/family overseas? and the wide range of international web radios he could listen to. All these use up a lot of bandwidth and if you get him hooked on any one of them, say hello to unlimited cable :P

If he still disagrees get unlimited cable. I have already used up 5mb in 30minutes by talking on MSN and viewing this forum.

A good program to monitor your optus usage is located here: http://optus.larcos.com.au

Try the 200mb limit for one month and if your not happy just upgrade.

i pay $55 a month for 512/128kbps ADSL with unlimited download, no AUP and no rolling download limit thingies. I get throttled to 128kbps download during business hours (8am to 6pm, weekdays) but I'm never at home at that time, so I don't really care, besides, my leeching keeps goin at 128 and come 6 o clock goes back to 512. Its awesome... thru Pacific internet which has had virtually no downtime and the quickest support line of any ISP i've been or worked at :P

4 gig was for Juiced on Xbox, 3.5 gig for spiderman season 1 (original cartoon) andother 3.5gig for season 2. Pron was about 8 gig (2 dvd's) the rest was music, Top gear, Monster Garage, Initial D and other anime and other assorted videos.

i see, so it appears im about to get fisted royally, i do use the net a bit, prolly 3hours a day roughly, and i dont really downlad stuff, its just looking at all the car pics on some of the forums im on.

ok i'll have a word to him.

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
