Ahhh cool,

That's one thing I was going to post a thread about "which oil to use for a mechanical diff".

Do you know which oils to use? Appart from the fact that I should change it cause the gearbox was never changed, so i should do the diff too. Plus I wouldn't mind loosening it up a little.

hi to all in this trend ive got a 94 r33 gts ive big plans for it at the mo the first thing ill be looking at is the suspension and work my way threw i guess the biggest thought on my mind is that my 33 is currently only free wheeling rear end ive heard from a few of the drifters round the way is you can lock a standard diff by welding your standard diff internals is this something any of you guys have attempted theyve spoken highly of this mod saying you dont get veriation from the switchn while drifting also i have noticed after they when turning in tight spots their rears do skipp massively and the cars tend to push foward rather than turn in cant be good for your day to day use or runnin to the super market also alot of 3 point turning so yeh is there such thing as the best of two worlds i wonder?????

I was told i had a locked Nismo diff of some sort, and in regards to wet weather, it is pretty bad, as when u hammer the pedal the rear end just spikes out, i found out the hard way doing a 360 around a round about, and thats with 4wd. =(

News flash, you have a powerful RWD car.. :P

I have the standard viscous diff and I have had one or two big "oh shit" moments when the rear stepped out on me. The only thing that'll save you in that situation is a diff that's completely open and single spins. Soon as both wheels are spinning you're going to get oversteer.

A locked diff will definitely step out, but they are predictable in the sense that you know they will *always* make you go sideways. Viscous diff - sometimes it will sometimes it won't. Sometimes it skitters back and forth as one wheel slips then the other.

R31 - locked diff will compromise your handling. Awesome fun for sideways action but cornering with a locker will always be slower than a proper mechanical diff due to inherent tyre slip. Slip is SLOW.

V8 supercars use locked diffs because they are cheap, not because they are the fastest way around a corner. V8's aren't the pinnacle of racing that's for sure!

:) kinks what v8s arent the pinacle of racing are you refering to circuit or drags last time i checked the fastest quater belongs to top fuel v8 draggsters not no rice cake and lemanz the tvr vanquish and corvetts are dominating not the exotic turbo snow blowers try switchin on the ol boob tube maaate yore dumming up the place :(

If you had read the whole thread you would have realized that he was referring specifically to V8 supercars and not to V8s in general. I think your looking a bit to hard for a V8 Vs turbo argument that never goes anywhere... :)

I'm pretty sure most people would think its pretty dumb going on skylinesaustralia and calling turbo's snow blowers. And your le mans argument is pretty flawed because as far as i'm aware turbo diesel audi's and peugot's are dominating...

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
