Hi

I took my car down to my steering specialist today to try & get 2 things fixed up before i go drag racing.

1. Brakes were shaking heavily under braking at 160 km/h +.

I had the rotars machined, runs sweet now.

2. My car pulls to the left. The car hit the gutter on the left hand side a while ago, so had some parts which were bent replaced to fix it up. After that being fixed i took it back saying it was still leaning to the left & they noticed "so & so" the bolts had slipped a bit in the crash so they pulled them back into place... Ok, so its pretty good now, i can do 180 km/h & it's feeling ok..... Before it would shake hardcore at 140 km/h.

So when i took the car back today i was hoping to get the steering fixed up 100% straight so when i go racing it'll be sweet.

The response was that they measured up everything & they couldnt do any more with the stock steering parts & said they could install a camber kit for me.

Does this sound right!? Will a camber kit fix up my steering. The car leans to the left & leans the same amount regardless of speed. The wheels don’t start shaking heavy at higher speeds, just a leaning to the left problem.

So yeh, anyway who has had this problem, or knowledge about this type of stuff please do share you thoughts.

Thanks!

Cheers,

i hit a gutter awhile ago and then i had adjustable camber on it and the bushes were stufed so i replaced them with standard bushes and put GTR struts with king springs in. while i was putting in the bushs i realised the left side that i hit wasn't lining up and had to bend the side of the brachet to get the bolt through.. now the left front side sits 10mm higher than the front right.. i have replaced everything except the actual hub bit.

p.s. my car pulls alittle to the left aswell.

i got nothing..

one guy at fulcrom said it could be a sunk spring but i don't think so..

Hmmm yeh that sucks then. Yeh when i took it to get fixed they noticed that somepart had been forced back in the hit, so they undid the bolts, pulled bar or rod or whatever back into place, took measurments, all lined up. After ringing them recently they said they might try to pull it back some more to see how it goes then. I duno, they're a steering specialist, thats all they do, they should be able to fix it. It's booked in for Monday, i'll post the results then.

cool..  do you know exactly what had to be forced back into place?

Nar sorry, i dropped the car down this morning, he was saying how it sucks when you have to get the car up onto a proper rig or something & check the whole chassis or something, anyway they're taking a look today. I'll try to remember the technical terms & parts they talk about when i pick it up & post the results tomorrow.

Cheers,

Yeh well i went to pick up my car this arvo & you wouldnt f#cking believe it, the owner comes walking out, "sorry mate i pranged your car", 'what' i thought he was joking @ first coz i looked @ the back & it looked fine, then he said "yeh really sorry i'll tell ya what happened" so we walk up to my car, 'owwwwwwww f#cking shit!', dammmmmmm, the side door was all pranged in & the front quarter panel too... farrrrrrrrrrrrk. The story went as: he was rang up told his mother was very ill in hostipal, he got in the big 4WD Cab chassis with big f#ckin bullbar type thing on the back & coz he was in a rush, smacked it into reverse turning, & boom into my f#cking car.

There's no way i could be angry @ him, he's always treated me right so i just said sorry about his mother & that was about it. He said he would take it to the best smash repairs he knew & get it all fixed up, i know he'll treat it the best way it can be done, but the whole situation has just left me feeling really bummed & f#cking angry, just angry @ the situation & it has just proceeded after having a bad weekend *inc loosing my wallet on sat night*. So im just trying to deal with this stroke of f#ct luck. Already been down the gym & smashed some boxing bags, listening to some heavy music 'korn' now & i'll find out 2moro what damage was done exactly & how long it's gone be till i have my baby back... I have decals on my doors too, so i'll probably gota source some replacements now too... ARRRRRRRRRRRRR :cuss:

Owww yeh he also said somethinga bout a Caster Rod... they going to replace that with a new one i think.... i dont even f#cking care how they do it now... i just want my dam car back... It better be back in under 2 weeks or else i'll be really f#cking pissd.

Life is too short for all this anger... Cars get smashed all the time. It is only when its yours it seems more important. Ride your bike, walk a bit, sh@g your girl in her mothers car.... there is always some good.

The wheel alignment in some skylines is borderline when they leave the factory. Then we drop them on their exhaust... and some times they clout a gutter.

Fair chance the biff has taken yours over the edge, and the slight bend in something means it will be very hard to get back without using accentric bushes and the like. Should be fine then...

Good luck

TT

Mate i feel for ya some merc driving lady reversed into mine not to long ago. Smash repairs don't take too long anywho. especially if you puch 'em.

to drive straight my steering wheel must be slightly rotated anti-clockwise about 2-5(degrees) is this the same thing or different?

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
