Im about to have a PFC fitted to my R34 GTT soon.

Naturally, I will have it tuned with the fuel I normally use in it.

Ive always used Shell Optimax, but Ive heard some people claim that BP Ultimate will produce more power?

Is this true?

Is it much if true?

Optimax is 6c per L cheaper than Ultimate locally so it would need to be a fair difference to make it worthwhile to switch to me.

Any comments from personal experience?

I prefer ultimate.

I've only ever fed optimax into my renault, ford GT and then a little barina.. since getting my sr20 cefiro I've only used ultimate cos the first tank of optimax i put in left huge black splatters on stuff in the garage parked behind the car and resulted in the whole back half covered in black crap (and i'd just washed it).

*shrug* people say optimax has way more sulpher in it also.

but then again in NSW ultimate is made at shell refineries so i guess the real question is if the process is any different or if its the same.

In brissy the, BP ultimate and Optimax, are very similar in price, unless of course you have on of those 4 cents off per litre dockets. I find they are both around 9 to 10 cents more expensive than regualr unleaded. By the way do they have moblie synergy 8000 in brisbane, if so where at?

I have been informed that optimax is no longer guaranteed 98ron, untimate still is.........hence i only ever run ultimate in my vehicles.

My tuner told me to only run ultimate, as he has seen increased numbers from one type to the other of up to 12hp.

That coupled with the smaller chance of detonation............ULTIMATE all the way.

    • @GTSBoy This method was able to get readings of -10 to -2, so it looks like its monitoring.  Now I need to figure out why the vacuum on the line provided isn't alternating with manifold pressure.  I went with 2 lines that an RB25 tuner recommended but I'll get a longer hose and try directly off the back of the manifold.  He may have been used to OEM intake setups while I have a DBW setup that removed the MAF and IACV.
    • I work at a car detailing and tinting shop called Quark which gets all manner of German cars in usually (mainly due to a contract with Mercedes Benz Kita Osaka, BMW Nishinomiya and others) but every once in a while something special comes in, like a fully restored 1972 HS30 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG... The shop owner had immediately started applying film to the windows as soon as it was in the shop so the interior was completely covered in towels and plastic sheets. But I could get a few photos of the engine bay which was restored like new. Such an amazing car to see in pristine condition in Japan these days.
    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
