Im in on a group buy if anyone else is interested! Hey YogiOOO, can you get them for $450 all the time?

I was reading a post yesterday (i think) that said they were $550 retail and $350 trade?

I also read in zoom that you can buy reducers with the Magic cat so it can fit on a 3 inch exhaust. Im not sure if i'd like that though.

Shaun.

Im certainly not an expert, but i thought it was just a measure of the ability of air to flow thru a given space. And as airflow is proportional to engine hp, the more cfm an exhaust can flow, the more hp it can handle without significant restriction. Does that make sense??

Yeah, the air on the exhaust side would be less dense due to the heat involved. So i suppose you've gotta allow for the expansion of the exhaust gasses. Its not that MORE air is flowing out of the ehaust compared to the inlet because the same amount of air going in has to come out again. Its just that the hotter exhaust gas will want to expand, hence requiring more space to flow through without significant restriction. Thats what i reckon.

Oh, i just spoke to the people that make MAGIC CAT on the Northern Beaches (Sydney), and they have come down in price now to $300 each. I mentioned a group buy and he said that he'd be interested in that. Im not sure what sort of discount though. The cats now neck down from 4 inch to about 3.5 inch apparently. I havent heard anything bad about them, so ill probably get one.

SydneyKid has tested this on one of their race cars.

their race cars don't use cats so a dyno run was done as is and as a test he fitted the 4 inch Magic Cat and dyno'd again and the car lost no power at all.

he mentioned that this was the ONLY cat he had seen with this type of result.

Considering the CATCO 3 inch ones are worth about $250 I think, this magic cat at $300 is a bargain.

Shaun.

i bought that one there at trade, so its was alot cheaper than any price mentioned above. I'm taking mine to get the reducers put on this weekend hopefully for my 3" exhaust

shif_tea: Depends on the suppliers - Some places we can buy all the auto elec stuff at trade price, but if I were to go to buy their 240 volt gear - we get no discount. (I know as we needed fluro lights for the workshop)

I have heard with places like repco, once your setup with an account with them, you have access to their whole range - although im only going on what I have been told.

Cheers

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
