lowlux,

Did you take the AFM off?:)

Because I wouldn't want any of the dirt/cleaner off the AFM in the engine/plenum.

Its easy to remove with only four bolts, hose clamp and a plug once the pod/air box has been removed.

Can be cleaned/dried properly this way! (make sure you hold it with the electrical component to the top so the fluid doesn't drain into it) The actual wire is fairly strong, so I doubt that the cleaner would damage it!

MEGA

P.s was the first thing that I did when I got my skyline because the previous owner though the AFM needed replacing but I just cleaned it and it has worked fine since then, was covered in oil and dirt from a pod that required oil.

im gonna sound stoopid, but here goes. a while back when i was putting my pod filter on i tried to remove it but i coudln't. i couldn't get the bloody plug off!!!! it was on soo tight no matter how i pressed it in or whatever it wouldn't come off. i thought that i was just one of those clip in plugs. any tips guys? not that i need to remove it, just would like to know how to unplug the damn fing.

dont remove both meshes remove the back one not the front!!!!!!!!!!! This is the easiest way i can explain it, say you have a hose with no end, you may be able to get a little more flow but the water is course and isnt uniform it just gushes out, same hose but with a small mesh over the end the water stays together is smooth and uniform and stll flows well. Same with the AFM with out the screens you get grainy air (technical term you may all use, hahaha) it is not a consistent airflow over the whole area of the AFM thus you can get bad tuning as the air is lumpy and sends mixed messages to the ecu, on the other hand the screen makes the airflow consistant and the same over the same area so its even. So in closing your honour, i rekon you can safely remove the back one does nothing really but always leave the front one in place it does serve a purpose!!!

my cars been running a bit rough lately,so i just tried this 2 mins ago,i got some carby clean, took the pod filter off,and sprayed inside the air flow meter and MY GOD!!!! its ideling sooo much smoother, and it actually revs alot smoother aswell, just thought this might help some ppl

Yo ive been meaning to do this for a while as my car soemtimes stalls and idles roughly

i did the damn thing today and its 100% perfect not only does it ride smoother it doesnt stall when i brake the revs stay right on approx 800 i love it... oh i also rest the computers and its absolutely supurb...

Im ordering everyone to go and do this now its the best I love it

Cleaned AFM yesterday after spending an hour changing a simple fuel filter... farking mahzahdah!

anyway...

Spent 30 mins researching (read: SDU search) for AFM maintenance and removal of mesh. I decided that I could see the benefit of removing the rear mesh all together but not the front one for reasons already mentioned in previous posts.

Cleaned it in CRC Carby-Clean, cleaned inside of intake pipe, bashed about 3 tonne of shyte out of the k&n pod while i was at it and put it all back together. That plug was a prick to get off too!

Idles a bit more smoothly, (can feel it as well as monitor it on power fc), have shit fuel in atm so can't test the difference in terms of a gtech or even general thrashing but ill get back to that asap!

That plug was a prick to get off too!

haha, i had trouble taking that plug off last time and just gave up. how did u do it in the end?? someone mentioned spraying wd40 on it, im a bit worried doing that may bugger the contacts. is it hard to take the mesh out?

im going to try this out tomorrow after my final uni exam. also, off topic, how did u change the fuel filter? last time i tried unsuccessfully, couldn't get the hoses off, they were sucked on so tite wasted an hr or so and still couldn't so gave up :D

I cleaned mine up yesterday,

ripped it out,

took off the back mesh,

soaked it in wd40,

cleaned it up throughly,

put it all back together,

idle is now 100%, no dips/anything, stays spot on all the time,

car feels abit better as well, though might be because its been abit cooler the past few nights...

    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
