Catch Cans?

Can I get some information on how a Catch Can works?

The big question is do I need one?

Catch can is hooked up to the breather points on your rocker cover, therefore catches all of the oil mist that it chucks around. I suppose the decision to get one is based on wheather you want oil in your plennum chamber and intercooler lines.

If your running standard or close to standard boost then there isnt any need for one, the more you up the boost the more blowby you get which is what a catch can catches

Beefy: have you noticed any oil in your airbox?

if your not running high boost and not reving it hard (racing etc..) then probably not needed, but it wouldn't hurt...

So at 1 bar of boost opn an RB20det with rb25 turbine.......vehicle used for drift etc.....best to get one?

RB Engines are known to pump more oil into the head than it can drain away when the engine's kept at high RPM so I would suggest that oil in a catch can is better than oil in your turbo, your intercooler, your plumbing, your manifold, on your valves and spark plugs.

Definitely get a catch can. There is no reason in the world not to have one! (well except for defects haha)

ok so having one is definately beneficial than having none. BUT what makes a good catch can? ive seen gimmicks where the can have nothing inside.... it was just a polished can for the looks. hence the small price he wanted ($70 or something)

also does the size of the catch can make a difference? i dont own a skyline, but a U13 det and the engine bay is EXTREMELY cramped. the size of catch cans are huge and id have no place to put it. who makes pretty small catch cans? i think ive seen greddy ones, they are actually rectangular than a cylinder.
