Why drive about seaching for stuff at shops when you got oodles of parts right there on the monitor, at ridiculous prices and gets sent straight to your door?

*edit: I got some parts (namely my wheels/tyres) from Seco-han Ichiba, so it is worth checking out...

meh serious lack of effort on my part right now... just spent the whole day under my ae86 pulling it all apart to do some paint stripping. I'm all greased up and turped :rolleyes:

I love those seco-han shops ;) also option conducts bi monthly (i think) swap meets for used parts too... maybe someone with the latest option mag can find out the venue of the next one (mines still in the mail methinks)

I'd buy stuff from seco-han shops and the swap meets when I wanna see stuff and check their quality (turbines, electronics etc) before I bought em and din wanna rely on 3 pics ;)

In terms of online stuff, there is: http://parts.auto-g.jp/ . There is another online site, but I can't remember it. Anyone know? They sponsor some dori-dori AE86 (yes, very specific, I know)?

on the subject of 2nd hand, is it true that they chuck out their not so old TV and PC's? A friend who taught in Japan says people there just throw them out, you can basically pick up a reasonably new TV & PC that are in excellent working condition.
Depends on what you class as "reasonably new"... you'd most likely see (in Osaka) those old black non-flatscreen TVs lying about, say 50cm screen... that type of thing. Silver flatscreens are still worth something so it's unlikely that you'll see them on the street. Plasmas? Hahaha...

You can pick up a mass of unwanted bicycles. I've seen tvs, microwave ovens and stuff like that, but a lot of them may not work properly. Japanese used to throw fairly new stuff out, but not anymore.

yeah up garage has shitloads of shops around japan, but I thought they dealt in new stuff

Dunno when the next one is, but you should check out the next Osaka Custom garage swap meet, its pretty big and there's plenty of bargains to be had. I got a mate of mine to pick up some stuff for my 180sx from there a couple of years ago.

Up garage and parts off are my favorites, not sure of where exactly they are at in the Tokyo area since I stick to the ones around here. If your up for a road trip head to Up garage in Machida on route 16, it's their main store in Tokyo/Yokohama so it's pretty big.

I agree with informer - yahoo is great, but the luxury of seeing the gear in the flesh is worth the hassle of venturing out to the stores. Out of 3 or 4 things I've bought on yahoo - only one has been EXACTLY the condition listed by the seller (and that was a new item!).

I've been to the upgarage near chiba station - not bad, though pretty small. Plenty of skyline stuff when I went there.

In my area, stores I've also been to garage-off (good store) and autobacs second hand. Still haven't managed to navigate to the local up.

      Well - they have arrived.  And they are easy on the eye to put it mildly... These only have three bolts - but for a start there is a key that fits with vacuum like precision..  And as you can see by my ruler, the interface is large..   I listened to a podcast on HP Academy about Dan (KiwiCNC) and I'm more than comfortable he knows what he is doing. R35 Bearing assembly should arrive later today so can mock that up for a look. Can't wait to get these on and get some brake pressure logging too. IMG_3860.MP4

      I would be very confident that they are the same parts (the 2 different SKUs). It seems very clear that you can drop the cam in the 2-way opening, or in the other opening. If you arrange it in the other opening in the same way that you see any other 1-way diff, ie, with the flat of the cam up against the 1° side of the opening, then it would work as a 1-way. It can only spread the ramps when driving forwards - cannot spread the ramps on overrun. It would then appear obvious that if you put the cam into the opening "backwards", that you would get the angled flats of the cam working onto the "points" of the 1° side of the opening, which would give you ramp spread in both loading directions. I do wonder if the forward direction of the 1.5-way config is equivalent to the forward direction of the 2-way, seeing as the cams are flipped and the angled surfaces on those would need to be the same on each side - AND - clearly when installed in either the 2-way or 1-1ay configuration they are not intended to work exactly the same (the ramp angles on the 2-way are 10° different between forward and backward, and the ramp doesn't exist in the 1-way config). 'twere me, I think I would rather actually have a set of rings that offered the 2-way with two different sets of ramp angles, say the 55/45 of the existing design and maybe a 45/37.5 combo for a less aggressive effect), AND another set of rings with a dedicated 1.5-way opening and a dedicated 1-way opening. The 1.5-way opening would actually have the steeper angle on the overdrive side that causes it to be less pushy than the forward drive angle, like you see in many other diffs. But really - if this Nismo thing is thought out properly and all those surfaces work on each other the way that they need to, who am I to argue?
