Good morning/arvo ladies and gents :(...

Got a question as just recent aquired one myself... about what sorta mods ppl do, for their stage 1, as this thing is pretty much stock as a rock, and just recent discovered theres lag in spooling and have no idea what it is, ive checked the intake pipes, and tightened the clamps but still its there, before hand it had a nice hard head splitting kick to her spooling, now it feels like a grandma driving it... :)

EDIT::: it may possibly be bad fuel but that doesn't seem the case as a few mates use the same servo's as i do {BP Ultimate} at the same locations around Gold Coast and they have never had a problem... so any info might help thx... shes only 6 days old :) cant have her gettin beaten by bashed up camrys now :( as it did last night *rather astonished and dismayed , wanting revenge :D *

what it has atm is the boys down in sydney developed a replica from Japans Performance ultra low coil suspension, in which theres not much movement, but great handling, its got the 2 degree or there abouts camber kit on the rear and possibly the front aswell... with 17" 235's, and also a Pod setup [Apexi] and was curious what would be the next step and where some good places for performance parts can be found etc...

any info would be advantagious as this is the first skyline that i have the chance to do mods to, so its a new learning curve :)

Cheers all,

Nekryd

what kinda power do u want from it? how do u want it to look etc?

the mods can go on for ever

ive spent very close to 20k on my series 2 r33 this yr so i know what its like to mod something

thanks, well atm, all i want to see done is stage 1 over and done with, any suggestions are welcome...

for what most ppl do for stage 1... in preparing for the stage 2 / 3 yada step ups... or the major overhall in 1 hit that i know a few have done...

what i need is some help in the understanding of what should be done in Stage 1, first up in prep for all the mods later, i know u need a power band u wanna aim for but atm, to be honest... aslong as everything is function/breathing and runs 10psi or more wid minimal shit, will keep me happy till i toss the manifolds fling the turbo and all the rest...

cheers.

to be honest id get an ecu first... then follow that with a fuel pump/regulator. do exhaust (cat back or turbo back). front mount intercooler. after this id look at doing boost increases altho u could get away with it after doing ecu

but if u dont wanna spend much money i would buy a safc, exhaust and then a boost controller.... i had 170rwkws with this setup (mine has an apexi pod aswell)

i guess the first stage in a stock gtst is to remove all the stock limitations and stock hardware. things you'll most likely consider or replace:

$1200 Ish fitted

full 3" exhaust, hiflow cat, new dump and front pipe

** stock exhaust is very restrictive

$1200 kit not including fitting (brand new)

front mount intercooler

** stock intercooler is tiny

(apexi safc $400 not fitted and tuned) / chipped ecu $350

apexi safc II / chippable ECU / piggyback system

** stock ecu has boost / fuel cuts, apexi safc or piggyback will help bring on power quicker and trick the ecu into more/less airflow

boost controller - $300

**stock boost is 5psi until 4500rpm then 7psi. aftermarket will allow you to set whatever you like. no more than 12psi is recommend as youll get boost cut on the ecu and won't make any more power. you can get a bleed valve for $100 or you can get a good second hand electronic boost controller, around $300 ? hks ez 2 or 3?

pineapple kit in the rear to help traction - $200

** stock suspenion is OK but this will prevent axle tramp or at least help it a lot

the stock skyline is about 130rwkw and above mods should net you around 170rwkw ish ? maybe 190 with full replacement ecu such as power fc

stage 2 is most likely

bigger injectors $700 (new)

aftermarket turbo $2000 (new)

full replacement ecu $1400 (new)

twin plate clutch $1400 (new)

new air flow meter $300 (2nd hand)

new fuel pump $300 (2nd hand)

255 or 265 tyres $1000 (new)

depending on turbo new manifold and wastegate $1500 ?

the list goes on, and theres a lot more stuff for stage 2 that ive listed thats just some off the top of my head. stage 2 is around 260rwkw ish depending on turbo etc. with a bigger turbo comes more lag

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
