Hey guys,

Over here in NZ we're allowed the luxury of radar detectors (and believe me they are a luxury - even if you're not the type inclined to speed they do give a little extra piece of mind). I was told they are completely illegal in Aus, what's the penalty for being caught with one??

My Road Angel is one of my best investments yet.

As I understand it, it's avoided being banned by the police because it's a "hazard/blackspot warning" device.

The logic- speed/red light cameras are *only* placed at accident blackspots (not places where they generate the most revenue right) so the Angel is just another road safety tool.

Aside from giving advance warning of accident blackspots (aka speed/red light camera sites) it also shows:

■ School safety zone warnings during school hours

■ Railway crossings

■ Country town entrances where speeds change (from 100 to 60 kays)

■ Point to point speed safety cameras

■ Multanova safety camera areas in Perth

how much do these road angels cost?

They are perfectly legal to use and own, been pulled over many a time with mine up.

They also pick up road works, crew signals and emergency vehicle signals.

They should be allowed in other states if u ask me as they are advising u of upcoming dangers.

Politicians lick nuts

PS if you buy one for $300 you are wasting your money i wouldnt spend under 800, that or buy a second hand top of the range one.

They are totally legal in WA. However, if they really want to ping you for something they will get you for obstruction of vision. I have been warned on this so now when i get pulled over I quickly remove it for peace of mind. Also, I feel it gives the cops and extra reason to try and get you for something else seeing as it gives them the notion that "this guy must speed alot and thats why hes got a radar detector etc etc.

Word of advice: try not to drop the detectors. Mine still works ( as in beeps etc) but i have lost the visual side of things.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
