School holidays time.....

Mate, I think this is a bit of a ridiculous question... It is great that you are enthusiastic about Skylines at the moment, but how about you see what is available in 3-4 years time???

And the way things are going at the moment with laws and regulations it is going to be a lot longer than 2-3 years till you can drive a performance car judging by your age (which is 15 in your profile)....

Well you know i could of lied about my age to fit in but i dont care =P. And i dunno how those laws are gonna go because would they really limit all of australia...they wouldnt be able to keep up, my brother drives a supra but even though they used to pull him over all the time, its like they have given up...

Don't care how old you are, good to see you didn't lie though....

And to answer your question, IMO yes these laws will affect you unfortunately, they could even be harsher by the time your ready to drive.

Also, some advice - don't buy a skyline for your first car, get something smaller, less powerful work your way up to something more powerful.

I realise there are a few guys on here that own Skylines for their first cars, this is just my opinion...

Enjoy your stay here, but let this thread die.

Edit: It is really hard to read what you write in that colour....

its good to see your enthusiasm

however, 2-5 yrs time is a very large time frame

also, 2 yrs is still a long time away

i think you should start looking around 6 months earlier.. 2 yrs is a long time

also, i dont think anyone can give u a price in advance for 2 yrs time due to depreciation (could be too high or too low).. also, you wouldnt know the condition of the car in 2 yrs time

What would you say about a 180 for a first car then??

What would you say about a 180 for a first car then??

Same as Skyline...

Get something N/A while your learning. You can't teach road sense, you learn it from day 1 when you get your P's... Sure you hit 17 and you can have a licence, but doesn't mean you have the skills to drive the cars your after...

If you do go down the path of getting a Skyline or 180 for a first car, go do some advanced driving courses, know your limits, respect your cars power and don't be a tool on the roads... Check out a couple of threads that are around here at the moment on some very unfortunate incidents that came from stupidity in a performance car...

So your basically saying i should get a car that has like 140kw or something really low.... whats bad about a old S13?? My brothers friend is a mechanic and hes got a 180, but hes put a twin turbo, now that would be over board but he started off with a stock 180 and now its a beast!

get a cheap car. it will be cheaper on fuel, insurance, and repairs when you crash. This sounds terrible but i had four accidents before I was twenty. one was stupidity and the rest just lack of care and attention. It all chalks up to experience. and you can't buy that.

Enthusiasm is what kills a lot of people on the roads. I don't want to be harsh but as others have said, start off with something NA. It will be the best way to learn the ways of the road. My first car was a civic, and building that up I learnt invaluable lessons about how to make a car handle and what affects the way a car drives on the road. Even if you only have a NA car for a year it will probably stop you from doing something stupid on the road. Or it will stop you from having something that will allow you to do something crazier than you could have done with a NA car.

I don't want to sound harsh, but seeing two major skyline crashes involving people only a couple of years younger than myself, has made me really think about the way people treat the right to drive on our roads.

My 2 cents

hmmm 2-5 years...ok will be waiting for your call.....i accept piggy banks, lunch money change(you know the lil brown paper bag thingy that the lady at the school canteen used to give you)and will accept afl swap cards*must be a full set of the last 5 years*

    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
    • Welcome mate. Any pics? Even with a DE I'd be well happy if I had that as a 1st car.
