My concern is that the rb25det engnies have a massive drop in the torque strating from 3000rpm to 4500/5000rpm and all the manegments just seem to just move the drop or make it more smoother but never can get rid of it.

dude, are you sure you know what your talking about?

Thats the stock ECU causing it. Get an aftermarket ECU... and a decent tuner and that problem just goes away entirely.

No ECU tuned properly will have the problem the stocker ECU has.

Oh, and you can get about 250awkw out of a stock GTR farily easily with an ECU

Well a locally delivered WRX is detuned for aussie fuel, only has 195kw as compared to the Jap version that has 206kw. (Same as factory GTR)

So the GTR still has a minor power advantage.

I would say a stock GTR (in good health) would easily give an STI a run for its money.

dont forget that the "206" was on paper

The realities are a bit different.

And the "power" advantage on paper is easily written off by a weight difference.

Dnot forget the cars your comparing are a few years apart also so its no very fair to let 5-10years of development come into it

Well for as long as i have been around i have never seen a r33/r34 rb25det with a straight up torgue graph, all of them have had a slight dee crease, im good friends with the tuner at hybrid, so far we couldnt get rid of it with any ecu (pfc, emanage ect) and it is the same with many tuners he knows. Look around i think u will be supprised.

Ive seen an sti totaly eat r33 gtr with exhaust, the sti had only had a front mount intercooler and exahust, no bull Shit but the sti really hammerd it buy far, i think both of them were boosted, i saw this on a street run i was behind them wen it happend.

im guessing the sti is not that easy to beet ?

Dizzo

With 217rwkw, do you get chopped by 180sx??? They are lighter so wouldn't need as much power to keep up.

i only have been choped once by a 180sx wen my car was stock as a rock, now with the new setup ive only raced about 2 and only one came close but was still behind buy a car length wen we hit 3rd gear, not sure of the setup it had but a saw a fmic, exhaust and boost gauge. Other was a hightway battle with i won buy far.

haveing a FMIC it would have been boost more than the GTR

the GTR with FMIC would b a different story.

i think i wouldnt be surprised.

considering i own a car with an RB25DET, and a PFC and its got no "hole"

and ive got one laggy turbo too

Its easy to get into the argument where you are comparing variable situations as defined already in this thread. If you want real facts look at the times that people run in these cars.

I ran 12.5 sec @ 111-112 mph in a GT-R with standard turbos low boost etc, usual bolt ons. If you can find a STi which runs consistent times like that in street trim then you've got the grounding of fact to say yes, STi is a quick car. Either way there is no doubt the both of them are quick street car.

That could be extended to your R33 as well. But as I've already mentioned, don't get a GT-R unless you're prepared to go the long haul with it - parts are expensive and parts often fail especially in the older R32s. If you want a well rounded stock car a STi would be a good performer, but to me it sounds like you're happy with your R33.

Could it be my tunner ? cause we allways have that little dip uneven slide in the torque.

R31 Nismoid is it possible to see ur dyno sheet to see the torque, i would be very intersted to see it as ive never come accross one without the dip?

Please correct me if im wrong here but ive come to a conclusion that both gtr and sti are verry powerfull cars in there own ways and both cars can be quicker then each other ?? :headspin:

" to bad my gtst cant keep up  "

thanks for all the replys  :)

I also was wondering how would a compleatly stock gtr compare to an WRX Sti

i was in one the other day and its very very impressive power, pulls and pulls

:)

I have owned ( only sold it 2 months ago ) a version 6 sti (00 , old shape , lighter than new shape ) . I had a power f/c , cold air intake into stock airbox , water spray on the stock top mount cooler and 1.1 bar boost , everything else stock .

It ran 12.6 @ 111 mph @ wsid tree times the same night with traction problems ( to much wheel spin ) .

A bog stock v6 sti will be around 13.5 1/4 , a r33 gtr will be about the same maybe 13.3-13.4 so not much difference .

My r33 gtr with n1 turbos , power f/c + ebc 1.2 bar boost, every thing else stock does 11.7 @ 121 mph , so you can see the potential of the gtr with mods you can get it much quicker than sti .

For the money the sti is a very good package , its half price , if not less , to what a gtr is for the same age .

R32 gtrs are getting a little old now so you must be prepared to do some work on them but they are a lot of fun to drive

i think stock vs stock the GTR would be the go versus the STi, my preference anyway

does anyone know what you can screw the boost up to in an STi before having to do any internal work ? ( i dont even know what turbo it runs )

the GTR has a race car feel that is pretty awesome, plus attessa - wich gets a Huge tick in my book.

what are you after in a car ? straigh line power or twisty fun ?

i think the cheaper option would be to stick with ur 33 and get some handling bits, check out the handling pack from whiteline, thats what im looking at. not sure what ur suspension setup is like at the mo but i reakon the 33 gts-t can be quite a tight unit on the track with the right suspension setup - and u can always go for a bit more power with some more mods.

My main concern is that my car is not awd, it wories me that awd will always be faster. :)

We had a track day on the "Clubman" track at Queensland Raceway recently and the R33 GTR ate everything including an AC Cobra. There were also some STI's there. I had a speed trap setup on the straight and the Cobra had it all over everything, but as far as the lap times went the GTR was the machine of the day. Oh yea, and it had stock turbo's that were high flowed and some boost and that was about it.

I think when you are talking GTR's its the race track that matters not the drag strip. Anyone in a tubbed out big block Torana can go fast at the drags, putting in fast consistent laps at the track is another story.

not to bag people, but more than likely it is.

I dont have a dyno sheet ATM the one i had went missing. But i can assure you my curve just keeps climbing up and up

Yep on the highway you have more power so you'd have a higher top speed, ie the faster you go the more power becomes a factor over weight difference.

Did that 180 with a front mount, exhaust and boost gauge beat you to 100km/hr though?

No, he was behind me all the time.

The 180sx is light but to get similar power to a skyline they need to be runing much higher boost levels. Skyline can run half the boost level and still have slightly more power.

    • Power is fed to the ECU when the ignition switch is switched to IGN, at terminal 58. That same wire also connects to the ECCS relay to provide both the coil power and the contact side. When the ECU sees power at 58 it switches 16 to earth, which pulls the ECCS relay on, which feeds main power into the ECU and also to a bunch of other things. None of this is directly involved in the fuel pump - it just has to happen first. The ECU will pull terminal 18 to earth when it wants the fuel pump to run. This allows the fuel pump relay to pull in, which switches power on into the rest of the fuel pump control equipment. The fuel pump control regulator is controlled from terminal 104 on the ECU and is switched high or low depending on whether the ECU thinks the pump needs to run high or low. (I don't know which way around that is, and it really doesn't matter right now). The fuel pump control reg is really just a resistor that controls how the power through the pump goes to earth. Either straight to earth, or via the resistor. This part doesn't matter much to us today. The power to the fuel pump relay comes from one of the switched wires from the IGN switch and fusebox that is not shown off to the left of this page. That power runs the fuel pump relay coil and a number of other engine peripherals. Those peripherals don't really matter. All that matters is that there should be power available at the relay when the key is in the right position. At least - I think it's switched. If it's not switched, then power will be there all the time. Either way, if you don't have power there when you need it (ie, key on) then it won't work. The input-output switching side of the relay gains its power from a line similar (but not the same as) the one that feeds the ECU. SO I presume that is switched. Again, if there is not power there when you need it, then you have to look upstream. And... the upshot of all that? There is no "ground" at the fuel pump relay. Where you say: and say that pin 1 Black/Pink is ground, that is not true. The ECU trigger is AF73, is black/pink, and is the "ground". When the ECU says it is. The Blue/White wire is the "constant" 12V to power the relay's coil. And when I say "constant", I mean it may well only be on when the key is on. As I said above. So, when the ECU says not to be running the pump (which is any time after about 3s of switching on, with no crank signal or engine speed yet), then you should see 12V at both 1 and 2. Because the 12V will be all the way up to the ECU terminal 18, waiting to be switched to ground. When the ECU switches the fuel pump on, then AF73 should go to ~0V, having been switched to ground and the voltage drop now occurring over the relay coil. 3 & 5 are easy. 5 is the other "constant" 12V, that may or may not be constant but will very much want to be there when the key is on. Same as above. 3 goes to the pump. There should never be 12V visible at 3 unless the relay is pulled in. As to where the immobiliser might have been spliced into all this.... It will either have to be on wire AF70 or AF71, whichever is most accessible near the alarm. Given that all those wires run from the engine bay fusebox or the ECU, via the driver's area to the rear of the car, it could really be either. AF70 will be the same colour from the appropriate fuse all the way to the pump. If it has been cut and is dangling, you should be able to see that  in that area somewhere. Same with AF71.   You really should be able to force the pump to run. Just jump 12V onto AF72 and it should go. That will prove that the pump itself is willing to go along with you when you sort out the upstream. You really should be able to force the fuel pump relay on. Just short AF73 to earth when the key is on. If the pump runs, then the relay is fine, and all the power up to both inputs on the relay is fine. If it doesn't run (and given that you checked the relay itself actually works) then one or both of AF70 and AF71 are not bringing power to the game.
    • @PranK can you elaborate further on the Colorlock Dye? The website has a lot of options. I'm sure you've done all the research. I have old genuine leather seats that I have bought various refurbing creams and such, but never a dye. Any info on how long it lasts? Does it wash out? Is it a hassle? What product do I actually need? Am I just buying this kit and following the steps the page advises or something else? https://www.colourlockaustralia.com.au/colourlock-leather-repair-kit-dye.html
    • These going to fit over the big brakes? I'd be reeeeeeeeaaaall hesitant to believe so.
    • The leather work properly stunned me. Again, I am thankful that the leather was in such good condition. I'm not sure what the indent is at the top of the passenger seat. Like somebody was sitting in it with a golf ball between their shoulders. The wheels are more grey than silver now and missing a lot of gloss.  Here's one with nice silver wheels.
    • It's amazing how well the works on the leather seats. Looks mint. Looking forward to see how you go with the wheels. They do suit the car! Gutter rash is easy to fix, but I'm curious about getting the colour done.
