Hey guys,

I would take this to nissansilvia.com but we all know they are a bit weird over there lol. Anyways, I have a mate with a SR20DET S13, his not planing any huge modifications, but we would still like your opion.

Air Intake - Apexi or K&N?

Exhaust - Either a Apexi N1, or something HKS

Spark Plugs - Splitfire with there twin sparkers or the Top NGK ones?

Intercooler - I don’t have the ??x??x?? but it’s either a HKS or Greddy, HKS's one seems to be a lot Higher, but Greedy’s seems to be a lot Longer.

What would you guys go for?

I had one of those exact cars before my GTR. I hope its a Manual :P

Air Intake - K&N is fine

Exhaust - 3" straight through turbo to tip. (with 3" dump pipe).. brand name mufflers are simply over rated. Use the money you save on not buying a jap muffler towards a decent IC installation. I had a generic but good quality stainless steel generic 3" muffler and my car sounded bloody awesome and gave enormous power.

Spark Plugs - The most expensive copper plugs work just as well if not better than ngk's.. Bosch twin sparkers are good too.

Intercooler: Once again, buy a good quality generic intercooler and piping and spend the money on a top quality installation job.

With those mods that car will be dipping into the 13s quite easily.

To me its all about bang for you buck. If you did that same setup with brand name japanese gear you'd be paying almost twice as much, and probably only getting a 27% power gain as opposed to a 24% power gain. (for eg.)

The difference is not worth spending almost twice the cash. Spend the money you save on an Apexi AVC-R boost controller or something like that :(

i have found 180sx sr20 with no mods was able to keep up with my lightly mod r33 untill 2nd (mid/end of the gear) so saying that with those mods i think a low 13 will be chance easy.

i would go

S15 turbo (BB and steel wheel cheap upgrade)

FMIC : Hybird 300x600x76 cost around $400 and another $500 for piping

Exhuast: Jap style cat-back with custuom dump and front pipe

Air Filter: any will do i have found K@N or apexi 2 be the best

plugs: dont replace untill u need too (i found that there was no point but jsut replace with good plantium plugs)

then maybe a safc II and ebc

for light mod and most bang for yr buck

air filter: K&N air filter in stock box

Exhaust : personal i don't care much about brand, but has to be turbo back (split dump, high flow cat) X force is good and cheap

Intercooler - S15 stock cooler will be good for 180rwkw

Turbo smart dual stage boost controller

(or EBC if u got the $, i love blitz as the hold the boost nicely, hell lot better than the Greddy e-01 i used to have)

Spark Plugs - won't do much, but i use top of the range NGK

maybe some computer? SAFC, E-manage, uni chip even power Fc?

get a RB AFM as well once u got yr computer

after that, u will need fuel pump, then mabe a S15 turbo + injector

s15 turbo is actually a much better turbo than the s13, particularly if you get a JDM one, not to mention atleast 7 years newer.

k&n filter, 3 inch generic exhaust, generic front mount, x force manifold, s15 turbo, 264 cams and a bleed valve.

On 11-12 psi you will see better than 180rwkw on stock ecu and injectors. And yes i've seen it done twice on 2 different cars with similar results.

Ecu, injector and afm upgrade will have better than 200rwkw.

Ok guys. ALOT of Shit has happened in the last 2 days. Firstly he got done by the cops again, so we took the damn turbo off for now. He isn’t happy.

Apart from your suggestions, my mate is a brands boy so he still went and got his,

NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs

Apexi Air Filter

Splitfire Ignition Leds

3" Cat Black Apexi N1 Exhaust system

What do you think his non turbo ***** will make on the dyno now.

Thats pretty bloody retarded mate. No personal attack, but you did ask my opinion.

Whats the point of buying mods if you've 'removed' the turbo?

What the hell is the point?

Its like having sex with a condom

Its like skydiving without a parachute

:P

.. And why did you ask our opinion if you where just going to go and do all of the above anyway?

I think your a little lost, it’s my mates car, and I was asking on behalf of him, so don’t be hating on me.

The parts were ordered before the cops got to him, so we don’t like physically have them yet.

im with steve on this one the s14a j spec and s15 turbos are a great improvement over the normal t25g because of better power and also they are bb, im installing one on a stainless manifold with a split dump etc onto my new sil80 im building and all i want is 180rwkw and it seems i might just scrape it in :P

i found by putting a s14a jap turbo on an s13 sr20det it felt so much stronger and responsive compared to a r32 gtst rb20det with a 2530. both had exhaust/filter/fuel pump

both on ~14psi, then again 2530 isnt in its efficiency zone till 1.1-1.2 bar.

dont have dyno graphs to compare tho.

i'm no mechanic, just my 2 cents

actually mate the car would run, if he set it properly

but they cant defect the car for having a turbo charged engine unless it is a 'q' and unlicensed with that motor, even then the engine numbers wouldnt match making it illegal

err

what the fck is this convo about again!

Quick question - I've got a sr20 making about 200rwkw and I haven't upgraded my coil packs (or changed my spark plugs for that matter oops).

R33's friend has bought splitfire ignition leads (no coil pack?) without any of the mods I've got (fuel pump, fmic, injectors, re-chip etc).

What exactly is the benefit in doing this? Or is it a case of R33's friend having heard splitfire coil packs are good, then not being able to afford them buying the ignition leads instead?

No offence to anyone I just don't understand.

What would be the advantage of upgrading your coil packs and when would you do this? (is there a power level or symptoms where you can tell your coil packs are holding your reliablity/power/tune down?)

Thanks.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
