Well, I just got a quote for $1650, my renewal at torque was $1850, so they look like a goer.

We also had a long chat about the "not parked on the street overnight". They clarified that they would provide coverage if, for instance, you were out of town and had to park on the street overnight, as long as you notify them first.

I'm calling tomorrow, hopefully they will look sympathetically (or just pathetically) upon my rather unfortunate driving history...

Good luck! However, I don't think Famous are really into insuring people with bad history. That's what Just Cars is all about, they just make you pay for it!

Well, the best Just Cars could do was around $7000, so I figure anythings worth a try!

I'd like to think it can only get cheaper from here on in.

Having said that, I have been quoted $3600 by NRMA, provided that the car is standard - which it obviously isnt.

I've exhausted all my Yellow pages and web-related links, so as it turns out, this insurance fiasco really is the proverbial sh!tfight that I was warned of.

:D

I just got a quote from Just Cars for an R33 Skyline. $2767!?! I'm 27 with a good insurance rating. They can stick it. I told them as much in an email too!

The others I got were around $1500 for an R33 or 200sx

I think many people are coming to that conclusion with JustCars... I'm 26 rating 1 and it was around $2k, and that was even agreed value of much less than I would be comfortable with. AAMI blows.

Ring around guys - its worth it!

well i just got my renewal for Just Cars and surprisingly theyve taken $1000 off the premium which was a pleasant surprise, from $3600 to $2600. Famous quoted me $2250, but with the extra hassle of them not covering the car between 11pm and 6am when parked on the streets/carpark im willing to stick with Just Cars for that extra $350 for it to be covered 24hrs/day. This is for a 21yr old with a 1999 s14a 200sx with 40% NCB. I think thats a pretty good price considering my age and the car :)

This is absolutely false. That is a condition they can place on your policy if your car is like a ferrari or something. It is not automatically the case. It is listed at the end of the policy document under conditions that COULD be placed on your policy. Ring them and ask if you don't believe me.

It's Awesome that these guys are so cheap and willing to insure modified imports.

Just a word of warning though from someone in the industry, and I and not trying to rain on the parade or make out they are nasty or anything ( as it certainly sounds like they are not), but the reason the premiums are so expensive at most other companies is because they have had the claims and realised the risk.

For a company to price match and beat competitors premiums, it shows that perhaps they have not got their rating stucture 100% correct ( which is a good thing for you guys now) but remember that if they start getting lots and lots of claims from all these new people insuring with them, then they will soon realise that they will have to stop the price matching - and possible put up their premiums.

Now don't get all shitty with them if they have to do that - just take advantage of their cheaps rates as they are available. It's all swings and roundabouts when it comes to shopping for the best insurance deal...

And please take the security of your car seriously, spend the money and get a decent immobiliser/alarm/tracker - it protects your pride and joy, saves you money in the long run, and helps keep insurance rates down - which again - saves you money....

Anyway - enough from me - just wanted to let you know that you should take advantage while it lasts - I hope they can maintain the cheap rates - the import scene needs it

Phil,

I think you will find that it may be a condition that they place on all high theft risk vehicles - ie, WRX, 200SX, HSV, EVO etc. By removing (or at least reducing) the chance that they have to pay for the theft of the vehicle, they can afford to quote cheaper rates.

A friend of mine recently insured his R32 GTS-T located in western Sydney with Famous, and i pointed out the fact that there was such a clause in the terms and conditions, so before going ahead he asked them about it and they told him that it is part of his policy. So if an R32 would have this rule put in place, then why wouldn't it apply for R33/R34/200sx/WRX etc. ? I dont understand why it would only apply to some ppl, when parking on the street has nothing to do with how many speeding fines you've had, or how many years you've been driving etc. as it is only parking? If you lived in a certain high risk area and you had that policyl put in place it still wouldnt really make sense because the rule applies to any street/carpark regardless whether its in a high risk area or not.

How long ago was this? It might have been before they started insuring imports on a large scale like they are now. I spoke to Robyn about this clause and she said that they hadn't used it for ages and it definately wouldn't be on my policy. I should receive it in the mail soon and I'll let you know!

My apologies 200sx, you are correct. I received my policy in the mail this morning and it does have that condition on it. I will be ringing them tomorrow for an explanation.

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
