When driving my car it will suddenly only rev to about 2500rpm and stay there even under full throttle. I am still able to drive the car, but only under these revs. I am able to turn the car off and on again and drive normally, but it is starting to annoy me.

Have been told it may be air flow meters, but the diagnostic didn't show an error. Current mechanic thinks it could be the engine wiring loom, but have you ever tried to get a replacement loom for a GTR to test the theory? They are like hens teeth.

Has anyone had this same problem and rectified it?

hi, it sounds like it is running in limp home mode, possibly the airflow meters, car will run on one airflow meter but if both afms die then it reverts to limp home mode. was it doing anything else strange before this happened?

has anyone been working on the car prior to this happening and not connected something properly?

Are you sure the computer hasnt been modified at all?

have you checked the plugs that connect the afms to loom?

hi CS_180, before you get a new afm try fixing it, youv'e nothing to lose if you plan to buy a new one, afms have a reputation of 'dry' solder joints, my afm on my '32 played up - car was stalling without warning - and i resoldered the pins that lead to the plug(under the afm lid), search the threads there have been a few in the past. Mine is still going 3 years later and no probs since, even showed fine on the nissan consult computer.

if you find someone with a consult interface and can recreate the 2500 problem, then drive the car and fire up a consult program, youll quickly see which or if both afm is not working. you might even fine one is permanently dead too

then check for continuity (or visually inspect) the joints to the afm from ecu (find right ecu pins might be a bit tricky, but its probably in the service manual as one of the troubleshooting procedures.)

Car is basically stock except for exhaust, so no ecu changes. The problem started all of a sudden one night. Was driving along and it lost power briefly, didn't think anything of it. But then later on in the night it just died and wouldn't rev.

Have taken off one afm to see what condition its in, the other one is a bit hard to get to when car is hot, but will take it out when car is cool. Have bought two RB20 afm's to replace these ones, but not sure whether stock computer can run them properly.

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
